Chapter 60 – Lin Yiyi’s Birthday (2)

After they had placed all the shopping bags into their car, Ms. Lin Ping led them in the direction of the next store.

Lin Yiyi, “……”

Yup, being poor limited her imagination.

So true.

This was certainly a hair-raising, core-shaking birthday for her.

Of course, that was referring to only Lin Yiyi.

Meng Shanshan was still young. She had no idea the differences between a purse that cost tens of thousands of dollars versus one that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. She had no idea what was going on.

Meng Yuran, on the other hand, had already been used to it.

But, he did think to himself that he wouldn’t be able to support the two women in his household if he couldn’t bring in a lot of money.

It wasn’t too bad right now, just his mother and grandma. There would be three women in the household after his sister has grown up.

The young man who has not yet reached adulthood had already developed a sense of crisis awareness when it came to money.

After they’ve gone home, all of them were exhausted.

With the exception of Ms. Lin Ping.

Lin Yiyi was so tired that she didn’t even want to lift a finger anymore while she watched on as Ms. Lin Ping sorted, categorized, and put away the loot for the day.

She never would have imagined that after she had gone over a month without buying new clothes and hasn’t even gone through original owner’s clothing for the season and so much more had just been added…

When would she be able to go through them all?!

She was finally able to see Ms. Lin Ping off when someone else came knocking on her door.

This time it was her stepfather, Mr. Gu Chengyi.

Mr. Gu handed her a gift box and said, “Happy birthday, Yiyi!”

Mr. Gu had known that Ms. Lin Ping had a ten year old daughter before they got married.

He wasn’t a very conservative person and that did not bother him. He never treated Lin Yiyi as an outsider. Ever since they had gotten married, he had treated her as though she was his own.

As such, even though the original owner wasn’t as close to him as real father and daughter, she still has a lot of respect for him.

Accepting the gift, Lin Yiyi was very touched, “Thank you, dad… can I open it up?”

Lin Yiyi unwrapped the gift box after Mr. Gu had smiled and nodded.

Lying quietly inside the box, there was a very delicate music box with incredible craftsmanship.

Crafted on top of it, there was a picture of a concert from an ancient European period, and there were also little trumpets on both sides that’d make noise.

Now, that’s what a normal birthday gift should be like!

Then, Mr. Gu said to her, “I won this 18th century antique music box from an auction …..”

Lin Yiyi, “.…..”

Her hands trembled so much she also dropped the music box!

And here she was, thinking that this was much more down-to-earth when compared to Ms. Lin Ping’s ostentatious style…

But what she was holding in her hands was an antique!

“This is a handmade music box that originated from Switzerland. Each of these boxes has their own story…”

Mr. Gu expressed his happiness before he took off, “I knew you’d like it.”

Could she not like it?

She was short of putting it on a pedestal and worshipping it.

After she had seen Mr. Gu off, more came to knock on her door.

The young ones came after the elders were gone…

Meng Shanshan and Meng Yuran came one after another.

The first one gave her a massager that she bought with all her savings in her cat-shaped bank container, “I heard my kindergarten said she had just bought one for her old mother…”

That’s a great thought.

Except she wasn’t old at all…

Lin Yiyi smiled when she accepted the gift. After all, it was the thought that counted.

Meng Yuran gave her the newest fruit brand cellphone.

Lin Yiyi was startled.

Wasn’t this a bit out of the price range of a grade school student?

The boy pursed his lips and said, “It wasn’t all that expensive.”

He had spent way more than that in that past….

He looked into the distance for a brief second.
