Chapter 20 – Exposing An Impostor (1)

Ye Mu was dazzled by this rare smile. But she quickly brushed this off, and seriously said.

“What are you smiling for? Follow me, I’ll take you somewhere good!”

Mo Linyuan hurried to catch up. Before long, Ye Mu had taken him to an abandoned, run-down courtyard.

During her stay in this world, she hadn’t been idle—she already found the way to this place and was only waiting to act tonight.

It had been written specifically in the book that when the male lead was still a slave, he once stumbled into a very secluded courtyard in the Ye residence.

This courtyard was originally the dwelling of the former Ye ancestors.

But then, a couple of the concubine-born children rebelled for the head seat of the family, and they united to burn their father and the first wife to death.

A huge, terrible fire had broken out, it was unstoppable and that day, dozens of people had died in this courtyard. Thus, it had been sealed off—no one dared to step foot inside the premises.

The male lead had found treasure here.

To recall the plot, the male lead was starving for a long time, being withheld food by the original Ye Mu. In the yard, he had found a snake and ran after it.

It was then that he found a book covered in sheepskin. The book hadn’t been too detailed on how he was able to obtain it, but the snake should certainly lead them to it…where was the snake now?

“…What are you looking for?” Mo Linyuan couldn’t help but ask when she saw Ye Mu in a daze.

All this time he had been quite observant of Ye Mu’s actions. His initial suspicion that she had ulterior motives gradually turned into doubting the identity of the current Ye Mu.

A person’s character can’t drastically change that much. Even if she was careful to fake it, he had still found a lot of loopholes—his final conclusion was that she wasn’t the original cruel little girl anymore.

Nevertheless, he thought, this person was better and far more interesting. Most of all, he accepts her person.

And she was a much simpler person than he actually thought.

Unaware of his thoughts, Ye Mu glanced at him and lowered her voice. “You can help me find a snake too!”

Mo Linyuan wanted to laugh again. Snakes are cold-blooded reptiles usually afraid of humans. How could she possibly find snakes when she was walking around and making a commotion like this?

However, he was still very obedient and helped her to find one. A moment later, Mo Linyuan thought of something and suddenly opened his mouth.

“Young lady, you’ve never drank milk before.”

Ye Mu who was poking through the grass didn’t understand why Mo Linyuan would suddenly bring up this unrelated observation; she had always drunk milk early in the morning. Isn’t it vital in order to grow the body, ah? My goodness! Are you telling her the original owner doesn’t drink milk?

No wonder she was short as a four or five-year-old when she was already supposed to be six!

Seeing her stunned for a completely different reason, Mo Linyuan added, “You don’t like plants, you don’t like colourful things. You specifically detested white, but like red, the color of blood. And, oh, you’re also left-handed.”

He said these things in a calm, conversational tone—like one would talk about the weather. But it was enough to finally make Ye Mu comprehend his hidden message, to remember the things she had been doing for a month. She immediately directed her sight down the skirts of her light blue blossom dress, suddenly feeling as if there was cold running up and down her back.

The things he was saying…had he found out that she was an imposter?

Ye Mu turned to look at him. At the moment, they were both standing apart some distance across the courtyard. His calm demeanor and unfathomable eyes made Ye Mu panic.

“You are talking about my former…former preferences, yes? I’m still young, my habits would naturally change!”

Ye Me pretended to answer this as level-headedly as possible.

But Mo Linyuan merely raised his eyebrows slightly before walking towards her step by step.

“I know habits change. But, your father, Ye Li is a suspicious and cruel man.”

He was slowly closing in, the soles of his shoes making crunching noises on the grass.

“These days you don’t see him that much. Furthermore, the people around you do not dare to question your new habits, so you might think everything is fine. But,” He halted, only an arm’s away.

He enunciated slow, giving her a penetrating stare, “If Ye Li suspects that you are not the same Ye Mu from before, it will be dangerous.”
