Lin Feilu was worried that Lin Jingyuan would scale the wall and escape his fate, so she squatted on the wall and fed the surrounding mosquitoes for a while.
The mosquitoes of a summer night were truly no joke— each bite caused an itchy swell, and she couldn’t seem to get rid of the source. As this was the price she had to pay to keep an eye on her Fourth Brother, she had to endure it. After waiting and waiting, Lin Feilu found that not only did he not try to escape, but someone had also extinguished the candles in the room.
Did that brat not mean what he said?
Lin Feilu quickly slipped away to avoid hearing something she shouldn’t hear.
The next day, Lin Jingyuan brought Mu Tingyun into the palace to greet Emperor Lin and Consort Xian.
Because of this marriage, Lin Jingyuan had been in a rough position with his parents, even appearing with a dull face when he saw Consort Xian yesterday. Consort Xian thought that she would only see her daughter-in-law entering the palace to pay her respects today, so she didn’t expect her son to bring her over personally as well.
Although he still appeared to be in a bad mood, there was no fuss or complaints coming from him as the newlyweds offered a cup of tea to Consort Xian as a sign of respect. Consort Xian explained to Mu Tingyun of her few more responsibilities as a Princess Consort in the future. Mu Tingyun obediently responded to all her commands and drank some tea for a bit before leaving.
Before leaving, Consort Xian cast a look at Lin Jingyuan. It didn’t really look like a smile, but the corners of her mouth were undoubtedly curved upwards in the slightest. She clearly said, “Do you think Mother doesn’t know what sort of girls you would like? Are you satisfied now?”
Lin Jingyuan recalled his previous protest and suddenly became a little angry from embarrassment. As soon as he left the palace, he lowered his head and strode forward.
Mu Tingyun was petite and was dressed in formal palace attire. Naturally, she couldn’t walk as fast as he did. At first, she quickened her pace and could keep up with him, but later on, she had no choice but to break into a light jog to match his stride.
Lin Jingyuan walked alone for a moment before suddenly realizing that his wife was gone. Looking back at her, he saw her walking over with a big gap between them.
Lin Jingyuan said sullenly, “Hurry up!”
Mu Tingyun suddenly raised her head when she heard his voice. Seeing him standing in front of her with a dissatisfied face, she lowered her head again and trotted over, lifting her skirt slightly.
After running to him, Lin Jingyuan realised that her eyes were red.
Mu Tingyun’s eyes were originally big already, but the added redness made her look even more pitiful.
Lin Jingyuan felt uncomfortable all of a sudden, “Why are you crying?!”
Mu Tingyun was trembling violently, suppressing her tears and answering in a low voice, “I-I didn’t cry…”
Her eyes became even watery. Lin Jingyuan’s mind was a mess as he quickly recalled how he coaxed Little Lu when she looked like this before. However, he found out that even though he was able to console Little Lu naturally, it seemed like he was restrained when it came to his own Princess Consort.
Seeing that the tears in her eyes were about to fall, Lin Jingyuan stretched out his hand in front of her while pouting, “I’ll hold on to your hand, and I won’t go so fast anymore, okay?”
Mu Tingyun looked at him eagerly.
Lin Jingyuan hooked his fingers impatiently, “Give me your hand!”
Mu Tingyun slowly put her soft, and small hand on his and Lin Jingyuan grasped it, his palm wrapping around hers entirely.
This time, he slowed down and led her all the way out of the palace.
