Chapter 372: Other Than Her, I’ll Not Sing With Anyone Else.
The more frustrated she was, the worse her singing became.
Even the hired professional got a little impatient. The only reason he had not exploded yet was out of respect for Nan Jingheng. He would have started nagging by now if it were any other singer.
“Master Chen, you’re actually here.” A woman dressed in a subtle but light dress came through the door.
Xu Moyan recognized her, she was a famous singer named Shang Xiling. She debuted as the junior apprentice of Tianwang. In order to promote her, the company deliberately had her sing a song with Tianwang during her debut, followed by several album releases that followed tunes that were popular at the time. The songs did not require much vocal skill, but they were concise and likable.
The company asked multiple internet celebrity accounts on Weibo to repost her song and give an evaluation on her singing to publicize her. They stated that her singing voice was akin to her name, full of spirituality 1.
The company looked for Xu Moyan back then as well. Her fan count at the time was not as much as they was now, at only around 300,000 fans. However, the quality of her fanbase was very high, and there were no ghost followers. Hence the company quoted her 10,000 Yuan for payment.
Xu Moyan agreed and helped promote Shang Xiling. This was why she did not feel taken aback now that she was seeing Shang Xiling in person. It might have been because she knew the path that the company had paved for her that the sense of mystery was gone, which made her look a lot more normal. There was no longer a sense of awe when looking at her.
“Xiling, you came to record?” Master Chen, the professional that Nan Jinheng had brought in, turned around to look at Shang Xiling. He quickly forgot his irritation as he asked her with a smile.
“Yeah. I heard you were here, so I came over to greet you.” Shang Xiling glanced at Wei Zilin and Xu Moyan that were on the other side of the glass. “Eh, are you preparing to train new singers?”
“No, we’re trying to record the theme song for Massacre OL. The lady over there has no experience in this field, so I was asked to come over and help guide her,” Master Chen said. The moment he mentioned Xu Moyan, a hint of annoyance popped up in his voice.
Shang Xiling noticed Nan Jingheng next to him and greeted him as well, “President Xiao Nan, you personally came to watch the recording?”
“They’re my friends, so I came over to support them.” Nan Jing did not seem pleased with Master Chen’s attitude toward Xu Moyan and pointed out, “That sister-in-law of mine didn’t want to come as she was afraid that she’d mess up. She only came after I coaxed and pleaded her.”
Master Chen paused as his expression stiffened. However, he did not reply.
Nan Jingheng saw that Shang Xiling was starting to chat with Master Chen, so he turned to Wei Zilin and Xu Moyan in the recording studio and said, “Sister-in-law, please take a break.”
Wei Zilin took his headset off before helping Xu Moyan to take hers off.
Xu Moyan was in low spirits. “Sorry, I’m dragging you behind. down, you would’ve finished by now.”
“Don’t think that way. We’ve planned from the start to take a day to record it, and even Jingheng had expected it. It’s barely been a few hours,” Wei Zilin said as he took her hand. He could not conveniently give her a kiss because there were people on the outside. “Also, you already sang very well. I watched how hard you practiced at home, and I don’t think you’re holding me back at all. So please, don’t think like that. If you do feel that way, it makes me feel like you still think of me as an outsider.”
Xu Moyan sighed. “I just don’t want you to be so tired because of me. I’ll be tired after singing for a long time.”
Wei Zilin grinned and caressed her hair. “Then, how about we wrap it up for today. We’ll record again tomorrow since I don’t think I have anything going on then.”
Xu Moyan, “…”
‘If Nan Jingheng heard you, he might actually beat you up.’
“How about we record our parts separately? You just sing your part, and I sing my part alone. I’ve only been singing our chorus well because we sing that part together,” Xu Moyan suggested.
Actually, she wanted to propose this idea much earlier on.
It was just that after Master Chen arrived, he said that it would be better to sing a love song together as it would be easier to get into the feel of it, and the flow of it would be more natural. Therefore, she had recorded in tandem with Wei Zilin.
Wei Zilin paused and said, “I can’t get into the emotions if I record myself. I only sang well because I’m with you.”
Xu Moyan’s initial gloominess suddenly dissipated, and she could not help but smile.
“What are you two dillydallying about? Come out, drink something and take a rest. Really, you two just can’t seem to stop making public displays of affection.” Nan Jingheng said into the microphone outside, clearly transmitting his voice into the room.
Wei Zilin rolled his eyes at him before he came out with Xu Moyan.
Lin Yi handled many public relations matters for Shang Xiling’s management company, so Shang Xiling recognized Wei Zilin and stretched her hand out, “President Wei, I didn’t expect you to come and record songs in person.”
Wei Zilin lowered his gaze to look at Shang Xiling’s hand and disregarded it. Instead, he merely nodded. “Just helping out a friend.”
“I did not expect President Wei to sing so well,” Shang Xiling said again.
Wei Zilin remained unenthusiastic the whole time. “It’s just alright.”
Shang Xiling planned to talk more, but Wei Zilin turned around to ask Nan Jingheng a question. “Who’s this?”
He was referring to Shang Xiling.
Shang Xiling was a famous artist in the music industry, and even though Wei Zilin had exchanged quite a few words with her, he still unexpectedly had no clue who she was. Did he really not recognize her, or was he just pretending?
Nan Jingheng decided to ignore the question buzzing at the back of his head and simply gave a brief introduction of Shang Xiling.
Wei Zilin made a glass of honey water for Xu Moyan. Because the water was a tad too cold, he even added some hot water into it, turning it into lukewarm honey water for her to drink.
Then, Master Chen said, “Xiling, do you have something to do later?”
“No. I’ve finished all my recordings for the day,” Shang Xiling said.
“That fast? I recall that you’re preparing for a new album now, right? Is that the reason why you’re here today?” Master Chen asked in amazement.
“Well, yeah. But I didn’t record much today, only three songs. The day actually went by quite fast.” Shang Xiling said with a smile.
“That’s already very fast. I have been recording here for several hours, and I still haven’t recorded a single song yet,” Master Chen said with a grin. He was not looking at Xu Moyan, but she still lowered her head in embarrassment.
Wei Zilin’s expression turned cold. “If we’re taking up your time, we can find someone else.”
Master Chen froze and looked at Nan Jingheng, to which, Nan Jingheng replied with a smile, “That’s true. I didn’t expect Master Chen to be so busy today. Did you have other matters to attend to? If so, I can contact somebody else, and Master Chen needn’t worry anymore.”
Master Chen said embarrassedly, “I didn’t mean it that way.”
Wei Zilin grinned sarcastically, he was not in the least bit happy with this Master Chen. Even though he was not scolding her out loud, he had always maintained an irritated expression when dealing with Xu Moyan.
Even if he was just being impatient, Wei Zilin could not stand it.
“What song is it that requires such a long time? Is it a difficult song?” Shang Xiling asked curiously, “This lady is ——”
Wei Zilin was initially trying not to take notice of Shang Xiling, but he suddenly took the initiative to answer her, “My fiancée, Xu Moyan.”
This took Shang Xiling by surprise, but she immediately followed it with a smile. “Miss Xu, are you entering the music industry?”
“No, I’m just helping out.” Xu Moyan smiled slightly.
Master Chen twitched his mouth as he thought, ‘Is she trying to help or be a hindrance.’
Wei Zilin was getting p*ssed by Master Chen as he listened to Master Chen say, “Xiling if you’re not too busy, try and sing the song with Mr. Wei once. Let Miss Xu feel the emotions.”
‘And try to feel for herself how terrible she actually was.’
“Sure. It’d be my pleasure to sing with Mr. Wei,” Shang Xiling said.
“There’s no need,” Wei Zilin interrupted coldly. “This song was personally made by Jingheng to persuade me to sing with my fiancée. I’ll not sing with anyone else.”
Shang Xiling smiled stiffly. It was getting hard for her to maintain her composure.
Then, Wei Zilin said to Nan Jingheng, “It seems that Master Chen has quite a lot of opinions about us. Why don’t we change to someone who doesn’t think we’re so troublesome?”
“Sure,” Nan Jingheng agreed in a heartbeat; he also felt that Master Chen was turning into quite an eyesore.
What kind of stunt was he trying to pull here?
He was the one who had brought in this person, only to have them show such a lousy attitude toward Xu Moyan. It felt like he had lost face, and also felt very sorry for Xu Moyan.
She had mentioned earlier that she would be out of tune and did not want to sing for them, which is why he had to drag Xu Moyan over. Once she did come, she was looked down upon by this Chen fellow.
How could he face Wei Zilin now?
Nan Jingheng got angry just thinking about it, and immediately took his cell phone out and made a call. “Zhezi, I don’t care how busy you are. Come over immediately and help your Big Brother out. I’m in the recording studio that I always use. What are you going to do? Help Big Brother’s sister-in-law record a song.”
“…”
“Not me, it’s Big Brother’s Big Brother and sister-in-law.”
Xu Moyan, “…”
‘Can’t you speak accurately? Such simple words, yet you’re making it sound so confusing.’
“I did find someone, but the dude’s unable to recognize others’ good intentions. Big Brother gave him money and wanted him to help Big Brother out. In spite of everything, he’s here trying to flaunt whatever musical ability he has, acting like he’s a gifted being or whatnot. It seems as if he’s making himself out to be somebody talented that’s indifferent to worldly rewards. It’s like he’s putting on a show for Big Brother whilst simply treating the money I gave him as a pile of sh*t!” Nan Jingheng was furious now. It was rare for him not to give other people face. However, at the moment, he spat out these words without hesitation as he looked at Master Chen, his mouth filled with venom.
