“I’ve been busy recently. I’ve just joined a company and it’s an important time for me during my probation period,” Lin Chu casually gave an excuse.

She heard Wang Jinglin’s embarrassed laugh. “No wonder you’ve not been visiting me. I thought that you blamed me.”

“You’ve been overthinking it. I’ll visit you when I have the time,” Lin Chu had to say it.

“It’s good that you don’t blame me.” Wang Jinglin’s voice sounded happier.

After finally hanging up, Lin Chu felt so awkward that she wished she could drill her way down and hide under the car.

“What are you planning to do at the company?” Yan Beicheng’s husky voice quietly floated over to her in the silent car.

He had a nice voice, Lin Chu thought, it was better than those popular voice talents online. It had a low yet rich quality that was magnetic, and not the hoarse kind of voice that was like a sore throat. It was a voice that attracted people to him, especially when he was speaking right into her ear, lightly. She could not help but felt weak in the knees.

“I’ll resign tomorrow. Even if you did witness what happened today, Yao Xingzhi might apologize to me and stop others in the company from giving me trouble but You Weiwen is the brother-in-law of my company’s boss. Even if my boss is aware of what he did, he won’t be able to do anything. If I continue working in this company, You Weiwen will pick on me. Besides, the probation points I gain will definitely not be enough to pass. Why should I waste my time there? He may not be able to do anything to me but it will be disgusting for me to face these people,” Lin Chu replied in one breath.

“Aren’t you worried he will record something negative in your files that would make it hard for you to find a job?” Yan Beicheng continued driving but stole a look at her.

She had a quiet look from the side of her face. Even when one was discussing an angry topic, she still had a wonderful, peaceful look about her. This night, it was like the sun was shining bright, the warmth was creeping in and the first snow has yet to melt.

It was beautiful and white, quiet and wonderful.

Lin Chu looked at him but quickly averted her eyes. She blushed as she said quietly, “Didn’t you tell them tonight that I’m your girlfriend? I think that if we can flaunt it again, they wouldn’t take the liberty with the report.”

Her earlobes started burning and her words sped up. “Besides, they might try to convince me to stay but I’m not willing to. I don’t really have an actual relationship with you, so they will find out about it sooner or later if I stayed on. The reason they would want me to stay on is just to find out if they are able to take any advantage of you. You did go out of your way to help me out, I can’t allow them to get you involved in their shenanigans.”

Jing Wen was not the most ideal company to work at but in order to earn a living, she had to tolerate many situations. No one would experience total smooth sailing at work. Some might experience lousy colleagues, some would have terrible bosses, some would be working at bad companies and there were those who experience huge pressure at work. For her, it seemed that she had a little of everything.

Yan Beicheng looked at her reddened face and his fingers that were holding on to the steering wheel made a slight move. He wanted to reach out and caress her delicate face and experience the warmth her face was radiating. Was it as warm as he thought it was? His fingers itched to move at the thought, but he had to hold it in and ended up tapping the steering wheel continuously.

He cleared his throat and loosened his tie with his structurally perfect long fingers. His mouth was a little dry. What should he do?
