Chapter 025: Quest Grade
Since things have already gotten to this point, then he really has no choice but to accept it.
Shien once more showed his adaptability.
Besides, Shien might dislikes trouble, but he’s not afraid of it, nor is he a coward, so there was no particular need for him to keep worrying about it.
Thus, Shien followed behind Vivian and group to the front of the guild’s quest board, ignored the surrounding gazes, and looked at the state of the board.
The quest board that adventurer’s guild uses to display the quests is actually just a remodeled wall.
On it were stuck a number of pieces of parchments, and the color of those parchments were different. Some were black, some were bronze, some were silver, some were gold, and there were even platinum parchments. It’s just that the further the color got in order, the rarer they were, and the higher they were placed.
In other words, the quest board was arranged so that black parchments are the most common and were placed at the bottom, while the platinum ones are rarest and were placed at the top.
Vivian begun to explain to Shien.
“These are all quests that were displayed after the guild’s done filtering them. As you can see, each quest sheet has its own color which signifies the difficulty of the quest recorded on them.
Before, the guild receptionist told Shien as well, there are grade differences between adventurers. From first to seventh grade adventurers, the guild would grant them seven different type of tags: Iron, bronze, silver, gold, platinum, mithril, and obsidian.
The guild thus copied the same system as the tags for quest sheets so as to display the estimated difficulty level of the quests.
“Normally speaking, first grade adventurers with iron tags can only accept iron class quests. With that following upwards, only platinum 5th grade adventurers could accept platinum quests.”
“At the same time, while lower grade adventurers can’t accept high grade quests, higher grade adventurers can accept lower grade quests. That’s the kind of system that the guild has set.”
“However, all things have exceptions. It’s not like it’s impossible to accept a quest of a grade higher than oneself, but first they must assemble an adventuring party. Also, the party itself has to have the the guild’s permission before it could accept higher grade quests.”
Vivian thus explained.
“Like our party for example, normally we can only accept a quest of the same grade as our highest level adventurer, but we have permission from the guild to accept quests of a single grade higher.”
That’s also one of the reasons that many adventurers are willing to form parties.
For one, with comrades accompanying them, it would naturally become easier to adventure, and the adventures are likely to be safer.
The second reason is this situation, where the party could get the privilege for accepting higher grade quests.
“Of course, it’s not something that you can get just by assembling a party. If a party’s members are weak or there are problems with their teamwork and could not combine into a stronger whole, then the guild would not give permission. Thus, just looking for random people to fill up numbers is no good. Forming parties is a serious matter and has various considerations involved with it, so you will need to properly consider things when it comes time to in the future.”
Vivian so lectured while continuing her explanation.
“At the same time, the higher grade the quest is, and the higher its difficulty, naturally the payment would be higher too. You should have already realized, right?”
Shien did indeed already notice that point.
For example, on the platinum quest stuck at the highest point on the board was written the following content.
——— [Magic Potion of Eternal Life] ——
Quest: Investigate the ancient ruins located in the deepest part of the center of the Felucia lake and return with the legendary Potion of Eternal Life said to be hidden within.
Reward: 100,000 Gold
That quest, be it the contents or reward, both would greatly stimulate one’s greed.
Not even mentioned just how much value eternal life has to humans with limited lifespans, just that reward of 100k gold is enough to make countless people go crazy over it.
In this world, a copper coin could buy an apple. A gold coin is equivalent to 10,000 coppers, so 10k gold probably has around the equivalent buying power on the level of billions, right?
That said, this is the highest level quest on the board, and even among the platinum quests, it’s the highest one in both difficulty and reward.
If it’s an iron grade request, the rewards would be much closer to a commoner’s level. They range from several coppers to several silver, and the contents of said quests are all over the place. They compose of stuff anywhere between herb collection to tracking people, the differences are enough to make one sigh.
(If I didn’t join a party, then I’m likely to be suck taking those kind of quests, huh?)
As he thought of that, Shien felt fortunate about joining this party for the first time.
“Oh, right.” Shien suddenly discovered something, and so he asked Vivian, “Aren’t there mithril and obsidian grades too? Why don’t I see any quests with those grades?”
Hearing that, Vivian couldn’t help but laugh.
“Mithril and obsidian grade quests generally won’t appear on the guild quest boards, you know?” Vivian explained, “Mithril grade quests will generally be the type to affect the life or death of a city or a noble family, so there’s no way they’d just randomly show up. Obsidian grade goes even higher, and they tend to be the highest level quests that affect the fact of nations, so even if they do appear, they’d be done so in secret, where the king or a member of the royal family would directly appoint a 7th grade adventurer to take it. Therefore, never mind Lamdrion, even in the capital, mythril and obsidian grade quests won’t easily show up in the adventuring guild.”
Shien understood now.
That is to say, under normal circumstances, platinum is the highest grade of quests, right?
Just as Shien understood this point, Vivian and group have started picking their quests. They ripped them off the quest board and headed towards the receptionist behind the counter to register them.
After bringing the quest ripped from the board to the counter, getting through the proper procedures, and gaining permission from the guild staff, would it count as having properly accepted the quest.
And Vivian’s party took down three separate quests.
——[Spring Water Collection]——
Quest: Take back three bottles of water from a magic spring. The spring must be at least of mid size.
Reward: 20 Gold.
——[Flame Salamander's Hide]——
Quest: Head to the Mangir mountains where flame salamanders live. Subjugate 30 flame salamander and bring back their hides.
Reward: 10 Gold
——[Clear the Vampire Vines]——
Quest: Enormous quantities of vampire vines appeared on the main road connecting to the northern town of Fresia, causing enormous danger. Please eliminate them as soon as possible.
Reward: 10 Gold.
For those three quests, one is gold grade, and the other two are silver grade.
Plus, they’re all the type that can be completely in a short amount of time.
