Chapter 170: Limit

Wang Hao mulled over the rules given to him. Upon his analysis, even though these rules looked absurd, they might be telling something that was just hidden.

The first hidden rule that he found was the one related to the one-meter area. The official rules stated that the choice for Fight or Flee will only happen if the two opposing groups were within a meter of each other. That means as long as the two groups were not within a meter of each other, they can co-exist in the trial.

This means cooperation is possible, as long as they do not get too near with each other. And for those who lost their chances for action, the only thing they can do is to avoid anyone all throughout the match.

Another hidden rule that the found was the fact that the number of actions a group can use will not be displayed. That means if a group has 0 actions left, other groups will not know it unless they start interacting with each other. The only thing that they will know was the original number of actions that the group received before the start of the trial.

This adds another layer of excitement to the trial, the ability to bluff.

Wang Hao started to pant excitedly as he realized that this trial was actually this cool. Wang Hao could feel his blood(if he had blood) pumping with excitement. He looked around, seeing that the other souls having the same excited expression as him.

“Oh no!” The armored man beside Wang Hao let out a wail of despair as he clutched his head. Wang Hao could feel that this man clearly lost something.

“Hey what’s the matter, Armored Man? Wait, what is your name anyway?” Wang Hao asked this hesitantly, seeing the disconsolate aura of the man.

“Master Wang Hao, my name is Jin.” Jin replied sadly as he fiddled his fingers. “As for why I am like this, it’s because of the betting system!”

“Betting system?” Wang Hao’s eyes lit up upon hearing it. “You mean, there’s a bet on who wins on this trial?”

“It’s exactly like that.” Roxy was the one who answered. “Because this important event can be seen by all the Underworld Residents, you can say that it’s already a sporting event. And with sporting events comes... betting.”

“Let me guess... the betting is not only about who wins. There will be also other categories for betting, right?”

Roxy nodded. “There’s also bets for who gets the most wins, the most flees, and many more. But of course, the one with the highest revenue will be the bets for those who win.”

“What are we waiting for? Let’s bet now!” Wang Hao was about to rush his followers when Jin morosely said,

“Master, trial participants and their followers are not allowed to bet.”

“Eh?” Wang Hao’s mind went blank after hearing this. “But that’s unfair!”

“It is a little unfair, so most of the participants give their money to their friends. It will be those friends that will bet the participant’s money. But since it was under the friend’s name, it will not be considered illegal.” Wang Hao barely heard Roxy’s reply as his dreams of getting rich overnight got shattered.

Due to the suddenness of the trial, he and his followers had no way to join the betting anymore. Thus, they could only sulk as they waited for the start of the trial.

After 5 minutes of waiting, Wang Hao saw numerous flying objects rushing towards the area. These objects then occupied places while still floating. When Wang Hao gave a closer look to them, he saw that each flying object was an eyeball with a pair of wings.

Each of the winged eyes were moving, with the eyes focused on the participants.

“Don’t tell me... those are recording devices?” Wang Hao was now sure that the Underworld was a creepy place.

“Yes, they are drones employed to provide live coverage for this event.” Roxy pointed to one of the eyes that was nearest to them. “They were created by an Eight Grade Item Master, so they cannot be damaged by the combat that will happen later.”

When Roxy finished her talking, Wang Hao suddenly saw a desk and three chairs suddenly appearing near them. Three souls could be seen lounging on the desk.

The first one was an elegant lady. Her long, blue hair reached her waist. Wang Hao could feel that only Eleanor’s elegance can compete with this woman. The lady sat with her body straight, as she gave a small smile.

The one at the middle was a blob of tentacles. Wang Hao was sure that if it was in Planet Thrae, this thing will have been immediately executed. The tentacles from the blob the waved from side to side, as if it was giving a greeting.

The last one was not actually not a person per se, it was a skull laid on the desk. The skull seemed like a normal skull, no matter where Wang Hao looked at it.

The lady and the blob were all looking at a large eye situated 3 meters away from them. This eye seemed similar to the flying eyes earlier, but it was 100 times larger than that.

Wang Hao knew that this eye must be a really powerful recording device.

Wang Hao was then about ask Roxy on what these newcomers were supposed to do when he saw the jaws of the skull on the desk moving!

“Good day and welcome to the Underworld Show!”

Loud music then started blaring throughout the whole area. This music sounded new, yet Wang Hao could feel that this music will sound more and more pleasing as time passes by. The music lasted for a minute before it went out. Wang Hao can only shake his head in confusion when he saw everything that happened.

What made him more confused was that Roxy, the armored man and even Old Billy sang along with the music.

Wang Hao started feeling left out so he asked Roxy,

“What the hell is this Underworld Show?”

Roxy just replied, “The Underworld Show is what it is. It’s a show.”

Wang Hao’s eyebrows twitched as he asked,

“So this Underworld Show is a show for what?”

Roxy smiled, remembering that Wang Hao was still a newcomer. She then explained what the Underworld Show was.

Due to the desolate feeling in the Underworld, some of them craved to have a way to have entertainment. That was where live shows were created. These shows were there to provide entertainment to the Underworld Residents.

And out of all these shows, the Underworld Show was the most popular one. This show covers the most important events in the Underworld, including the Trial for the Yama Successor.

“So those three will be commentators on this trial?”

“Yep!” Roxy replied enthusiastically. “Those drones will show the Underworld the events of the trial while the anchors will provide commentary.”

“Tsk, this place is ridiculous.” Wang Hao muttered to himself as he saw a large cauldron descending in front of him.

On the surface on the cauldron, some words were written. The words engraved were,

“Random Number Generator.”

“Wow, so even shows right here in the Underworld can be corny too.” Wang Hao was sure that a lot of cringe will happen today.

“.......”

Right now, Gabrielle was feeling the greatest pressure on her life. She sat on her chair as she tried to maintain her elegant disposition. She was busy calming herself down to maintain her beautiful image. She seems to be good at it, since her fear and nervousness was not shown on her body language.

Joining her at the desk was a blob made up of tentacles and a talking skull. She barely managed to hide her flinch everytime the blob and the skull made a move. She was clearly scared of them. But she held her fear inside her as she tried to look calm.

“Come on, Gabrielle! This is your big break now! Do not screw this up!” She chanted to herself as she maintained her gentle smile in front of the large eye.

Gabrielle was not supposed to be a commentator for the Underworld Show. She was merely an assistant of Emmie, one of the original commentators. But due to some circumstances, Emmie experienced soul deviation on her cultivation.

Because of this, the Emmie had to spend time to cure herself.

Unfortunately, this happened right before the trial started. This means the Emmie cannot be there for the coverage of the successor trial.

Rushed decisions led to Gabrielle replacing Emmie as the commentator.

Gabrielle slowed down her breathing as she thought to herself,

“As long as I do my job beautifully here, I will get a promotion. Heck, maybe I can even replace Miss Emmie as the commentator!” She hid her sparkling eyes as she imagined a bright future for her. “As long as nothing drastic happens here, I am sure I can maintain my composure.” She then looked at the participants of the trial.

Her lips curled into a smile as she thought,

“Besides, look at these participants. I am sure none of them will do something shocking that can shake me!” Gabrielle decided to save her laugh once the event finishes.

Gabrielle then looked at the large eye as she said in her melodious voice,

“Good day everyone, I am Gabrielle, your new commentator, now signing on.”

Little did she know that a certain fatty will test her patience and composure to its utter limits.
