Gu Shishi’s eyes beamed. “Yes, of course. It was me who shamelessly asked you for one after I found out that everybody else is going to get one.”
Butler Lin, “……”
This future madam was quite a character.
“Okay, then give me a minute. Let me go grab one that didn’t have a name printed on it.”
“Eh? There were names on them?”
“Yes, we have cards printed.”
Gu Shishi took a look. Sure enough, there were printed cards with the writing “Happy Mid-Autumn Festival” written on them dangling outside of the gift boxes.
They looked so cold. The printed names and season’s greetings were very mechanical and void of a human’s touch.
It was, for sure, the boss’s style.
But… she recalled how Mr. Chef was afraid to even look into the boss’s eyes when he talked to him the other day.
“Butler Lin, are you in a hurry to hand these out?” Gu Shishi cocked her head and looked at her watch.
Alarmed, Butler Lin asked, “I plan to hand them out today. What is it, Miss Gu?”
Gu Shishi smiled and pointed at the cards. “I can draw something interesting on the cards that go out. It won’t take too long. Maybe 1 – 2 minutes each. Will that be okay?”
“Huh?”
***
It was not Mid-Autumn Festival yet, but there were always some who’d take off early.
Which was why Butler Lin wanted to give out the gifts early in time. It would also double as a stimulation for those at the mansion to work hard on their final shift before the holidays.
He didn’t think that Miss Gu would stop him here.
It was difficult for Butler Lin, in his forties, to get why she wanted to draw these little cards. But, he accepted her suggestion nonetheless.
Shortly, as he stood next to Gu Shishi watching her drawing, Butler Lin’s look began to change.
From being baffled at first, to being skeptical, to finally being so interested to a point that he didn’t even walk to walk away, Butler Lin stood and watched for over half an hour long.
All the way until Gu Shishi stopped with her pen, looked up at him and asked dubiously, “Butler Lin, I seem to recall there was a maid with the surname Fan? She was around 30 or so in age?”
She had finished adding a little bit of something to all of the cards.
But, as she was drawing, she suddenly remembered the maid who had tried twice to set her up.
During the closet and the milk incidents. She still remembered what she looked like. She thought her name was Fan Qing?
Gu Shishi tapped her forehead with the pen she had in her hand.
She hasn’t made any moves as of late. Gu Shishi had planned on pretending that she hadn’t noticed anything to wait for her next move and hopefully find out who was behind it all.
But… she didn’t even see anyone with the surname Fan in the stack of cards.
Thinking about it some more, something seemed to be off.
“Are you talking about Fan Qing?” Butler Lin has an odd look on him.
Gu Shishi nodded immediately. “Yes, yes, yes. Her!”
“She quit,” said Butler Lin concisely.
Gu Shishi let out a surprise sound. “She quit?”
The one who caused her trouble had left before she succeeded? Did that mean the person behind her had given up on setting her up?
Butler Lin hesitated for a little then looked to his left and right.
Realizing that there was nobody near them, he lowered his voice and said, “She was fired by the young master. She had done something that she shouldn’t have… after you were sick last time, she was taken to the police station by the securities at our mansion.”
“I heard from Siyi that Young Master planned to press charges and she might get jail time.”
Gu Shishi’s mouth dropped open. “Say what? That one time when I was sick from acute GI inflammation? The time when I had the iced milk? I didn’t even know about this…”
Butler Lin nodded and his tone was mild. “It’s such a minor incident that there was no reason to bother you with it. Young Master got upset so the security took care of it.”
