Chapter 96 – Following (跟踪)

Judging from his voice, Jing Yunzhao could guess that he was around thirty, it sounded like he had some gangster habits, and was smoking a cigarette. She could also hear the sound of him blowing smoke through the phone.

“Tell me the target,” Hua Zei said nonchalantly, almost as if he was having fun.

“Only a schoolgirl. All you need to do is harass her and take a couple of pictures,” Jing Yunzhao replied.

“Don’t you want to push it a bit further?” Hua Zei showed clear disinterest in this request. A small job like this probably wouldn’t have a large payment.

How could have Jing Yunzhao not understood the other party’s meaning? But even though she did have animosity with Qiao Hongye, if she were to follow Hua Zei’s advice to push it a bit further, it wouldn’t do her any good. So, she rejected it right away, “No need. Just do as I say. Twenty thousand deposit. Another thirty after the job’s done.”

This made Hua Zei dumbfounded, but in the next second, Jing Yunzhao could no longer hear the sound of him smoking a cigarette, “Okay, text me the target’s information.”

Jing Yunzhao hung up and did as Hua Zei had instructed.

After receiving the other party’s confirmation message, she transferred the money over.

But Jing Yunzhao didn’t know that, at that same moment, Hua Zei was looking playfully at Qiao Hongye’s name on the phone. His eyes were full of mischief, and a “tsk tsk” sound came from his mouth.

“Why is Hua-ge so happy? Got a good request?” A man nearby came over, extended his head to check it out, and became excited, “Yo, isn’t this Cao Xing’s (曹行) little girlfriend? Cao Xing has been hiding for too long. If it weren’t for our morals, we would have taken revenge on this little girl a long time ago. So? Are we finally gonna take action?”

They were all here to make a living. Even though they had done plenty of bad things, they still retained a little bit of their consciences for their own safety. Unless someone paid a high price, they rarely laid their hands on students.

But Cao Xing took action against students because of this Qiao Hongye. He even took a bunch of brothers to the school’s entrance to threaten a female student. It would’ve been fine if they had succeeded, but, aside from the loss of life and property, he had even sent those brothers of his to jail.

Cao Xing had gone into hiding. If his family assets weren’t being monitored, he probably would’ve fled far a long time ago.

“Take what action? This is the employer’s target. 50 thousand for harassment and some pics of her. Only an idiot would reject it!” Hua Zei rolled his eyes at him. “We’ll take action on Monday morning. This girl treated us like mules. It’s time we teach her a lesson!”

At that same moment in a small hotel, Qiao Hongye sneezed violently.

Today was Friday, the day that was supposed to be used to relax. Yet, because of Qiao Weimin’s request, she had to stay in County Town. Since she was also afraid that she would be discovered by her classmates, Qiao Hongye could only find an inn to stay at near Cozy Garden.

‘Bang bang bang!’ Someone suddenly knocked on the door.

Qiao Hongye’s heart jumped. Who could it be in the middle of the night?

She carefully walked to the door but heard a familiar voice, “Open the door, it’s me.”

Cao Xing! What is he doing here?!

Those delinquents from before were arrested because they had intercepted Jing Yunzhao, with only Cao Xing managing to escape. Qiao Hongye was ecstatic when she thought that Cao Xing had left, yet she didn’t think that he was still in the County Town! And… he had even found her?!

Qiao Hongye couldn’t help but panic. She was clear that Cao Xing had quite a temper. If she were to upset him, who knew what he would do.

So Qiao Hongye quickly opened the door.

“How did you know I was here?” Qiao Hongye asked fearfully.

Cao Xing’s face was full of stubble. He closed the door right after he entered the room, “I’ve been keeping track of you for quite a while. I couldn’t find a chance to talk to you, It’s a good thing you didn’t go home today.”

Qiao Hongye panicked. Quite a while? Then Cao Xing had been following her this whole time?
