Chapter 74

Instead of saying, “I’m like this because you touched that barrier,” I focused on the part where Aedis was angry.

“He was mad at you?”

Aedis must have gone to the quarry right after I collapsed.

Just before he went to the quarry, we were having a full-on argument on the patio.

Aedis was super angry at me for looking into his past, even though that hadn’t been my intention.

He didn’t show any killing intent towards me, but I could tell that he was barely suppressing it.

But technically speaking, why would he get angry at Shaula for touching the barrier that had nothing to do with him? And why would he go and install a new barrier too?

He didn’t really want a divorce, did he?

I’m convinced now.

“I told you. If I had surrendered even a few seconds later, I would have been killed. Anyways, I’m off!”

I stretched my body forward to grab Shaula, who turned to leave without hesitation, but then I lost my balance.

“Wait, kyaa!”

The floor was getting closer.

Shaula caught me.

“…Your Grace, are you a fool?”

No! But take pity on me, I can’t even control my body right now.

I knew that today would be both the first and last time she’d say anything to me.

It was sad, but right now, I was in too pitiful a situation to care, so I pushed her.

“Was he really mad at you? How did he get mad? What was his expression like? Please explain it in detail.”

“…Why don’t you just ask the Lord?”

“I’m not asking for dating advice, so just answer the questions.”

“Uhhh, that’s a bit…”

Unsurprisingly, a detestable response came back.

Realizing that she wouldn’t be able to leave the room for a few minutes, Shaula lowered the bayonet from her back and onto the chair…

The chair broke immediately.

She paused

“Do I have to pay for this?”

“Of course do, now quickly tell me everything.”

Shaula sat down in another chair without retrieving her bayonet.

Then she thought back to what happened, with her supposedly bad memory, and explained it in as much detail as she could.

Shaula’s expression didn’t look good as she finished her words.

“Did I really need to explain something that took less than five minutes in such a succinct way?”

Of course.

Because I knew that Aedis still had feelings for me.

But what I speculate is different from what others actually see.

I was a little embarrassed by the threats he made in bed and on the terrace, but…at the time, Aedis had looked a bit embarrassed too.

Come to think of it, why did I suddenly get a peek into Aedis’s past?

I had no time to think about it though because Shaula was changing her posture every 30 seconds. Her concentration had noticeably reduced.

I gave her a smirk.

“Aren’t you strong? I mean, you found out that I signed a contract with a beast, so you probably know where Aedis is right now too, don’t you?”

Shaula’s eyes wrinkled as I sugar-coated my words even though they had a clear purpose.

“Even if I do know, I don’t really feel like telling you.”

“Tell me and you won’t have to pay me back for the chair.”

“I won’t tell you just so I don’t have to pay.”

If that’s the case then…

“Do you want to join a hunting festival or a swordsmanship competition? I can set you up.”

They weren’t just empty words.

If Tolyman Elliott opposes it, I’ll take care of the expenses myself.

Even if Paimon didn’t grant my wish, I could open hundreds of hunting festivals or swordsmanship contests with my personal money.

With a lot of prize money and prizes too.

Shaula looked at me blankly.

She thought for a moment and then spoke in a voice filled with ambiguous emotion.

“…He’s not in the castle.”

It wasn’t my favorite answer.

Outside the castle. Alright, but where outside? And what if he doesn’t come back?

It wasn’t a nightmare, but it could have been too much of a thought.

Aedis is a man who doesn’t attach much importance to the Kallakis Grand Duchy.

He doesn’t even try to stick with Gilbert and Regen.

And now, I am included in that group too.

But Aedis did make sure I was awake.

He created a new barrier too.

And hid the body of the beast.

Okay so maybe Aedis did care about me a little bit, but there’s a possibility that he thinks his job’s over now.

I felt a little anxious because I might have just brushed off his remorse and caused him to leave because he thought he wouldn’t get any divorce even if he endured it any longer anyway.

“Cough.”

I coughed and covered my mouth with my hand. There were red stains on my palms.

Oh, it’s bleeding again.

I must have walked too much.

Shaula smelled the blood with her animal-like sense of smell and reacted promptly.

“Your Grace, will you die soon?”

You know what? I don’t have the energy to answer this bullsh*t.

But then Shaula suddenly suggested, “Do you want me to take you to the Lord?”

Huh?

It was the exact opposite of her attitude from before, when she did not want to reveal his location.

What kind of change of heart did she suddenly have?

Or maybe it was a weakened mind.

Maybe you’ve got something else up your sleeve?

I didn’t show any sign of my doubts about going with her.

“Yes, I’d love to.”

I quickly put on my fur hat and gloves, lest she goes and changes her mind.

Shaula tried to pull me into a princess carry like before, but I refused so she put me on her back instead.

Shaula jumped over a distance that would have taken more than 10 minutes to cross even in the carriage.

She started speaking without paying any attention to the downtown area below the castle.

“I’m going to conceal us. It’s not that I’m hiding my presence, it’s just that it’s a long way off.”

I kept coughing so I couldn’t reply.

I covered my mouth with my hand, and blood splattered onto the glove.

I like these gloves, but now I’m going to have to throw them away. *Cries*.

“Your Grace, why are you looking for the Lord instead of waiting for him to return?”

I replied while taking off the gloves.

“Because I want to see him. I mean, if I get worse, will he notice and come back? Shaula, would you like to hit me? Just a single shot?”

“Your Grace, do you want to die instantly?”

Shaula answered me as if I was crazy, and then stopped shortly thereafter.

We arrived at a very remote area, even within a place like Esmeralda.

It was a blind spot where it would be difficult to receive protection even from the security forces.

“I lost track of him here.”

Losing track in a place like this….Hey, isn’t this plot too obvious?

Did you bring me all the way here because you had other plans?

“Put me down.”

I got down from Shaula’s back and opened the door to the nearest store. It was a dusty old bar.

“Excuse me. I’m here to find someone.”

The owner, who was smoking a cigarette, responded as if he had heard this many times.

“The creditor?”

No.

I’m glad I wore a black coat with no decorations.

It was a luxurious fabric, but it would just look a bit expensive if you didn’t look too closely.

“Have you seen a man who’s about 188 centimeters tall, handsome and perfect, but has recently started to look like a puppy in the rain?”

Shaula, who was following me, furrowed her eyebrows.

“The Lord looks like that? Really? Isn’t he a cold-blooded man, who doesn’t shed a drop of blood even if you stab him?”

“The Lord…?”

The owner almost dropped a cigarette at the word ‘Lord’, so I denied it.

“It’s a slip of the tongue. Anyway, he has dark hair and blue eyes, but if you look closely, they’re also purple. They’re very pretty when you look at them up close, and his long eyelashes when he smiles…”

When blatant self-interest began to mix in, the shopkeeper cut off my words.

“I haven’t seen him. I don’t know anyone like that.”

I went to the store next door and the store after that and asked them the same thing.

Not a single thug, even in a store with quite a few customers, said that they had seen a man with an appearance similar to Aedis’s.

Honestly, I think Shaula had other intentions for bringing me here.

“Ugh, I’m tired.”

As I wandered the streets, I leaned against the wall to catch my breath. A cold sweat formed on my forehead.

Shaula stared at me, who was completely exhausted.

“Your Grace, you’re so weak that I don’t know where to hit you.”“…..”

“I can’t think of a good way to do it.”

“…..”

“Maybe it’s just natural for the Lord to abandon Your Grace.”

Are you saying that you want me to get hurt?

We just met each other for the first time, but it didn’t seem like she knew Aedis well, and there was no sense of her actually wanting to hit me.

I’d rather be killed instantly, so just hit me with your physical powers. That seems more painful.

Besides, technically speaking, I have the option of getting a divorce, even if I throw it away.

When I didn’t respond, Shaula’s eyes narrowed.

“Your Grace, the Lord is in the castle.”

Are you training me to be a dog now?

“And yet he let me take Your Grace away? He would have noticed if he had been paying a little more attention to Your Grace.”

I was too lazy to respond, so I kept my head down and listened to her quietly.

Shaula finally patted my shoulder, thinking that I was feeling hurt.

“Ah, that’s too bad~ I really like Your Grace’s personality, but you’re too weak. And, it’s even worse because weirdly, I don’t want to kill you.”

I’m so sorry to hear that you feel bad about Grand Duchess’s pitiful situation.
