Chapter 40 – Between Life and Death (1)

Ye Li released his hold on Mo Linyuan, making the boy unceremoniously slump towards the floor. Ye Xiaolang hurriedly went towards Mo Linyuan’s side, holding his hand to offer comfort despite his own body trembling slightly. Just a moment ago, he was truly afraid that Ye Li would strangle Aji to death!

What did Aji give to Ye Li for him to spare his life?

However, Mo Linyuan only slapped his hand away and signaled with his eyes. Only then did Ye Xiaolang was able to retract his train of thoughts. He hurriedly said, “General, we must leave quickly! The Young lady is really in danger, we don’t have a choice but to charge in!”

When Ye Li heard this, he pretended to be anxious and said, “This general has matters to settle with his inner residence and will regretfully leave for the time being. Please enjoy yourselves to the fullest; there’s no need to be polite.”

After he said these, he waved his hand motioning for the entertainers to continue their dance. Afterwards, more beauties were brought over by the butler for the guests to choose from.

Ye Li moved to a corner devoid of prying eyes, only then did he remove his façade to glare fiercely at Mo Linyuan before taking the lead and walking towards the very front.

Mo Linyuan patted Ye Xiaolang’s hand and led him to follow.

The moment they came out, Ye Li could no longer maintain the smile on his face. However, he did not immediately alert the Zhao Emperor of this matter. Before he left, he pretended that nothing had happened.

Ye Li shifted his gaze back to Mo Linyuan. “You are quite calm for your age—lacking the demeanor of a child at all.” Ye Li’s gaze promised danger, but when he spoke these, his tone this was very casual.

Mo Linyuan was a “mute”, so he naturally wouldn’t say anything in reply. He only left in a hurry. He had already left Ye Mu for a long time, so there was no telling what had happened to her!

But if he didn’t answer, Ye Li would stop and return back to the banquet hall. And if he didn’t leave, Mo Linyuan naturally wouldn’t be able to leave either. Mustering his will, he turned around and glowered as he looked at Ye Li.

This fearless appearance made Ye Li want to laugh.

“You’re not afraid of death at all.”

Mo Linyuan was burning with anxiety. This was clearly Ye Li’s own daughter’s life that they were talking about, but he was not the slightest bit apprehensive. He didn’t ask for the reason nor did he care where she was. Instead, he opted to stare daggers with a mere slave. It was simply inhumane to the extreme!

He clenched his fist while Xiaolang knelt by his side.

“General, spare us! We were just too worried about the Young lady who had been summoned by First madam. It’s unknown whether she’s still alive or not, so please, quickly go and save her! ”

Ye Li’s face sunk, and he bellowed, “Ridiculous! What danger can there be if she gets called by the Madam?!” He really didn’t believe that the other party would come to him for such an absurd reason.

Ye Xiaolang was at a loss for words to say. Mo Linyuan pulled him up from the ground; he didn’t say anything, but he made gestures with his hand to guide him on what to say next.

Ye Xiaolang understood the silent message from the other party and he turned his head back to Ye Li. He clenched his teeth and said, “If the general would only take a quick look! If we have been caught lying, we are willing to accept any punishment!”

When Ye Li heard them say this, he swung his sleeves and went towards the courtyard the main wife was in.

From far away, he had already heard some unusual sounds…

After Ye Mu had been caught, she was tied to a wooden bench. The person in charge for the instruments of torture wasted no time to follow the madam’s orders to torture her. Every hit of the wood against her flesh was getting fiercer by the minute, and her skin broke and bled.

Wen Ru sat unconcernedly at her pavilion, her face beaming with a sadistic smile as she listened to the sound of the stick hitting flesh.

“What a tough bone. Refusing to beg for mercy even if you’re already like this. What a shame…”

Ye Mu could only remain silent from the pain. She didn’t have to look down to know that her lower body was already covered in her blood. For this woman to be able to torture a child without batting an eye…Ye Mu thought she must absolutely not fall into her hands!

“Alright, stop playing.” Wen Ru, finally finding the scene dull, looked to the west and snorted, “Just kill her.”

“Yes, madam!” Upon hearing this, the person who held the wooden stick raised it up high. And a trace of killing intent flashed across his eyes! Without a doubt, if she was to be hit with this stick, she would definitely die!

Ye Mu raised her eyes slightly, her eyes glued towards the tightly shut courtyard door. A trace of disappointment flashed deep within her eyes…Truly, a world without human rights was indeed full of difficulties and torment for those at the bottom.

Is this it? Is she…going to die?

She slowly closed her eyes, accepting whatever her fate may be. However, at this critical moment, the gates to the courtyard were loudly kicked open!
