Translator: Sissy That Walk

An hour later, Di Qiuhe led He Bai to a grand villa with a garden and swimming pool. He Bai was so jealous and asked, “This is…yours?”

“Yep, mine.” Di Qiuhe nodded and appreciated this large, beautiful villa with him. “My grandpa gave it to me.” He added.

He Bai was shocked and turned to him, “Your grandpa?”

“Yes.” Di Qiuhe nodded and turned his head to look at him. He said indifferently with a calm face and tone, “My Grandpa.” No trace of feeling excited or happy of finding his relative could be sensed.

The door of the villa opened suddenly, as it had echoed his words. An old man with grey, grizzled hair on a wheel chair appeared. And the person who pushed the wheel chair was…

“Hu Zhao?!” He Bai stared at him with a shocking face, “Aren’t you…the butler of Di’s house? Why are you here?”

“Master Di, Mr. He, welcome.” Hu Zhao first greeted them with great respect and turned to He Bai, explained, “Mr. He, I have resigned from Di’s house several days ago. Now I work here.”

He Bai was totally baffled.

What happened? So Di Bian’s confidant just turned his coat to Di Qiuhe? They had been so unfamiliar and courteous at hospital before!

They couldn’t have put on a show like that. He Bai knew clearly that Di Qiuhe’ guard and concern on Hu Zhao were real! Seeing how he was in disbelief, Di Qiuhe smiled and poked him on his face, explained, “Uncle Hu is my grandpa’s confidant, I didn’t know that before.”

He Bai raised his hands to cover his face. He was less shocked but various things flashed in his mind.

So, Hu Zhao had been secretly arranged into Di’s house to take care of his daughter? Then Fan Lianxiu died for unknown reason while he could not reach Fan Da, so he just stayed in Di’s house. He pretended being loyal to Di Bian so that he could continue to protect the son of Fan Lianxiu, Di Qiuhe!

So he just pretended like a bad guy but actually he was an undercover? Double-sided spy? That was a film action!

…What a fascinating spectacle!

He looked at Hu Zhao and then at Di Qiuhe, finally the old man on chair. It seemed that Fan Da was not so irresponsible. Although he went to enjoy his life, he didn’t forget to send a man to take care of his daughter in case she was bullied…But he failed anyway…

But why didn’t Fan Da say anything? They had been standing here for a while! Was he really turning into a dotard?

He turned to Fan Da while he was thinking.

The old man had a medium build and looked good. He was kind of mild and refined. But he didn’t have any expression on his face and appeared dull. It seemed that he was really getting senile.

The old man’s eyeballs moved, as if he noticed that He Bai was sizing him up. He turned to He Bai. Suddenly, the dull eyes restored focus and his eyebrows gathered up. He looked wise and deep!

He Bai was shocked by that look and fell into confusion.

Was he really a dotard?

“Who are you?” The old man measured He Bai from top to bottom and then glanced around, finally looked at Di Qiuhe. He turned to Hu Zhao and asked, “Where is Lianxiu?”

He Bai was a little bit surprised and looked at Di Qiuhe.

He smiled and gazed at Fan Da, answered before Hu Zhao, “She has been dead, for almost 20 years.”

Fan Da’s body trembled and stared at him with a serious and angry look.

Di Qiuhe didn’t avoid his eyes and smiled slightly. He stepped forward to smooth the blanket for him. He said in a casual tone, as if he was talking about the weather, “I’m Fan Lianxiu’s son, Di Qiuhe. I told you that several days ago, don’t you remember that?”

Fan Da didn’t say anything and just looked at him. He measured Di Qiuhe with guard and his eyes lingered at his eyebrows. A few seconds later, he seemed to understand something suddenly and relaxed. He looked down at his old palm and blinked slowly for seconds. Then he leaned back and closed his eyes, said in a low voice, “Yes, I remember, you are Qiuhe, the son of Lianxiu. Lianxiu went to look for her mother, and left you to allow me to atone for me sin.”

Hu Zhao looked at him with worry, “Uncle Fan…”

Fan Da opened his eyes and waved to interrupt him, asking: “Have you got the files I want?”

“Yes.” Hu Zhao looked at Di Qiuhe and bent a little so that the old man could hear more clearly. He answered slowly: “I have got them in the morning and put them in the living room as you ordered.”

“Good.” Fan Da nodded and looked at Di Qiuhe who stood upright.

Di Qiuhe looked at him without any expression.

Fan Da chuckled to himself, and turned to He Bai again. He shook Di Qiuhe’s hand and said like a child, “Little Qiuhe, who is he? Is he your friend?”

Di Qiuhe also held his hand and turned back to He Bai. His extremely indifferent eyes were softened and tinted with some warmth. He replied, “He is He Bai, my lifesaver.”

He Bai wanted to step forward but stopped. He rolled his eyes in his heart and scolded that crap introduction.

“Lifesaver? Then you have to reciprocate him.” Fan Da replied slowly and looked at He Bai with mild eyes. He beckoned him over and said, “Come, come here my little friend, let me show you something.”

He Bai restrained his mood and went ahead.

The front door was closed and they entered the living room.

The living room was a little bit empty, which indicated that the host had moved to here in a hurry and got no time to decorate.

There were several sealed boxes on the tea table in front of the sofa. And several safes lied under the tea table. In the further place, a bunch of carved chests crowded there and stretched to the stairs, seemingly endless.

Seeing these, Fan Da’s dull eyes restored some brightness.

Assisted by Hu Zhao, he stood up and slowly approached to the sofa, then sat down again. He first leaned forward and tore down the seals on boxes, and took out the files one by one. Then he took his pen and stamp from Hu Zhao. He gave Di Qiuhe a look, signing and stamping these files one by one. He said slowly, “When Lianxiu was married, she begged me to save dowry and money for her future child. She said it got be a large amount of money, or she would never forgive me for leaving her out for so many years…For her whole life, she never asked me for anything, so I have to satisfy her this time.”

His voice got hoarse and vaguely shaking, but the hand that signed the files was still stable.

“I have watched so many things in this world, but left out her…I felt sorry for her…She was as beautiful as her mother when she was a child…I have done so many wrong things…”

A file after another, he signed all these files in different typefaces and presented them in front of Di Qiuhe.
