Inside the minivan, there wasn't much talk among those who were inside. Everything that had happened felt somewhat like a dream. It was unbelievable what they had gone through and what they were going through now. Never could they imagine that today would be the day when everything changed for them.
Looking outside the window, the workers were saying their goodbyes to the city that they had spent most of their lives in, and strangely, Killer, along with Herbert, was still in the car as well, wondering what they were going to do now.
Meanwhile, the rest were resting, resting as the adrenaline was starting to settle down, and they wondered what the outcome of this whole thing would be.
When the group arrived in Slough, the minivan had made a stop at one of the construction sites in a part of Slough called Salt Hill. It was an area that was mostly empty, filled with land and large parks.
The initial idea of the area was for children to hang out, since there were skateparks, tennis courts, and basketball courts, all for young youths to enjoy their time. However, because of this, it had quickly become a hangout spot for the color gangs.
A lot had changed now that the Howlers had taken over. The plan was to integrate the parks, upgrading the facilities while building new housing apartments and developments. The Howlers members had already gotten rid of the color gangs, and the young were starting to use the facilities for what they were actually designed for.
Most of the area was still under construction, but there were three large tall standing apartment blocks that had been finished, and arriving through the front gate that had security on the outside, the minivan drove in, meeting up with the others that had already arrived.
The Howlers members were looking after the residents who were amazed at everything around them. The place was beautiful in their eyes. There was green grass, trees, and freshly made flooring.
Was this really the place they were going to hold up people that they didn't even know in? Moving to a tier higher city, they thought they would still be living in the same conditions as before, but this was night and day.
Kai, getting off the minibus, stretched his arms, and soon the others followed, along with Gary and so on. Vlad was still passed out and laid in the back of the bus, so Austin had stayed with him inside, just in case anything happened.
But, Vere, Killer, Elijah, and Herbert, all of them had exited the bus, wanting to see what this town of Slough was and what they had planned to do with the residents.
"Hello, everyone, and thank you for being patient about our arrival," Kai announced. "I know things must be quite shocking for you all. This sudden change won't be easy on anyone, but we will try our best to make you comfortable while you are here.
"My colleagues will each hand you a key, along with the number attached to the room that you will be staying in. These will be your apartments to live in while you stay here. We can't just outright give you these apartments.
"Since this whole development actually belongs to our own tycoon of Slough, Gary Dem."
There were a few whispers and large smiles on their faces when they heard that name, which made Kai feel strange inside, wondering what he had done to make such an impression on them.
"However, you are now citizens of Slough. Work hard, save up money, and buy a place of your own if you wish, but there is no pressure. For the first week of your stay here, you can settle in, explore what Slough has to offer.
"I have arranged for a minibus to arrive with supplies for food and basic necessities in the morning. As they arrive, they will run some surveys of the skills you currently have, and we will try to help you get jobs according to your respective fields.
"Failing that, Slough also has a good connection with Cardenez Electronics, who are in need of workers, and they are happy to take on more workers. We will work hard to build a relationship between the two of you."
Kai finished his speech there, and they were all dumbfounded. Could this really be true? Were there really people this nice in the world? Who would offer such benefits to people like them? Maybe top students at a university, or the country's most skilled workers, but them, who had a bad education and had only learned to do the basics.
It was only natural that, with this much generosity, tears were starting to flow out of their eyes, and that's when the group started to walk up to the green-haired teenager.
He was still wearing the mask on his face, so Killer and the others still didn't know who he was, but the workers in the factory did.
They all bowed down at the same time. "Thank you so much for your generosity; you don't even know how much this means to us!"
They all started to say several words of praise, and some of them even thanked him by saying his name. Saying thank you to Gary Dem.
"Wait, Gary Dem!" Killer said. "Isn't that the AFC fighter, the one on the program, what the? Who are these guys, and that Big Mask knew him as well."
Things were confusing for them, and it would be for a while. Now that the workers had been dealt with, it was time for them to decide what to do next.
What were they to do with Killer, Herbert, Vere, Elijah, and Vlad, who was still an infected Altered? All of these high-profile people who had come to Slough.
