Chapter 13: Capture

“That’s pretty lucky, it spawned in one try.”

In the past life, Li Yi had discovered this Mutated Wild Boar spawn point when he was wandering around aimlessly in the dungeon.

The Mutated Small Wild Boars did not spawn every time. Instead, there was only a small chance of them spawning in a Normal Level Instance Dungeon.

Rare monsters were even harder to encounter than Bosses. In fact, they were the hardest monsters to find in the game. In the previous life, Li Yi leveled up to Level 25 in Frost Labyrinth, spending more than two months in there. Even so, he only encountered them 5 times.

Li Yi slowly raised his arms over his head, aiming at the Mutated Small Wild Boar in the distance.

A bolt of red light descended from the sky, enveloping the Mutated Small White Boar. The red light moved down slowly from the top of its head. If the red light could successfully cover its target, that would mean the capture was successful.

“Roar–”

The Mutated Small Wild Boar howled once, and the red light on the surface of its body immediately shattered. At the same time, it had noticed its unsavory guest, Li Yi, so it kicked up its hooves and dashed at him.

“Shoot!”

Li Yi cursed. He ran back the way he came, turning around and unleashing an arrow at the same time.

The Mutated Wild Boar was even angrier now, following closely behind him.

Li Yi kept running rings around a large tree, occasionally shooting out an arrow behind him. He watched as the Mutated Small Wild Boar’s HP continued to drop steadily.

When a monster’s Health dropped below 5%, Pet Mastery’s capture success rate would increase. However, this only applied as long as the target in question had not hit the capturing party.

He could not leave the battle, or else the monster’s HP that he had depleted so far would instantly be restored.

When he saw that the Mutated Small Wild Boar’s Health had more or less hit zero, Li Yi stopped running circles and instead ran in a straight line, instantly increasing the distance between him and the Small Wild Boar.

One steps, two steps, Li Yi calculated the distance between himself and the Small Wild Boar. When he was just about to leave the battle, he finally turned around abruptly, raising his arms up high, taking aim, and firing the Pet Mastery skill at the Small Wild Boar.

“Bang!”

The Small Wild Boar howled in fury, breaking out of the red light again and running toward him at even an faster speed.

Li Yi had no choice. All he could do was continue running in circles until the Small Wild Boar’s speed decreased. Only did he run away in a straight line, gauging the distance for him to use Pet Mastery.

Regarding the Pet Mastery skill, even if you leveled up to Level 20, the only difference it made was how many types of monsters you could capture. As for the capture success rate, it never changed. Be it at Level 1 or Level 20, it always remained exactly the same.

System Notification: “You have left the battle…”

“F*ck me.”

Li Yi could not help but swear. Although he was extremely well-versed in all of the eight major classes, this was still his first time trying to catch a pet himself.

“No wonder there are always so many Pet Archers complaining on the official site, this rate sure is a pain.”

As soon as he left the battle, the Mutated Small Wild Boar’s HP instantly recovered fully. He had no choice but to start again from the beginning.

System Notification: [The monster had broken free of your grasp…]

System Notification: [You have left the battle…]

This process repeated itself more than ten times, pushing Li Yi to the brink of insanity. Only then did he understand why there were so few Pet Archers out there…

More than ten hours had passed, and the Mutated Small Wild Boar was still standing on the icy ground, all alone. Li Yi, on the other hand, was almost too tired to move anymore.

There was no such thing as a stamina gauge in King of Pantheon, so Li Yi’s exhaustion did not stem from his body. It was a spiritual weariness.

“Dammit, no matter how you slice it, I’m still someone who’s reset and played this before. Don’t tell me I still can’t beat you, you little monster? Fine, I won’t do anything else today, we’ll see who lasts longer, you motherf*cker.”

Li Yi’s shone with a ferocious light, and he brought out the same energy he used to have when soloing ancient ruins in his previous life. Energetically, he drew his bow and let loose an arrow…

And another dozen or so hours passed…

Finally, the red light enveloped the Mutated Small Wild Boar completely, and a cheerful little jingle rang by his ear. System Notification: [Congratulations, you have captured a Mutated Small Wild Boar.]

[Mutated Small Wild Boar]

[Level: 1] (No matter how high the level of the monster was, once it was captured, the number would automatically go down to zero.)

[Attribute: Ice]

[HP: 300]

[MP: 50]

[ATK: 20]

[DEF: 200]

[M-DEF: 100]

Special Skill: Enhanced Tackle (two continuous tackles, results in extreme aggro), Tear (causes damage to three targets ahead), Ice Armor (Passive Skill, complete immunity to Ice Attribute Attacks. Also, when hit by physical attacks, damage is reduced by 30%)

“I finally got it…”

Looking at the icon of the Small Wild Boar in his Backpack, Li Yi was simultaneously annoyed and overjoyed. He was annoyed that it had taken a whole day for him to capture the thing, and overjoyed that it was not all for naught in the end.

Li Yi summoned the Mutated Small Wild Boar. The Mutated Small Wild Boar just stood there dazedly, without moving at all.

This was because he had just only managed to tame it, so the Affinity between the two of them was too low.

Li Yi pulled up the Level Rankings and glanced at them. The player in first place was still Old Li Flying Dagger, Level 8, 50% EXP. The name in second place was no longer hidden, and it read: Snickersnee.

‘Snickersnee?’

‘Never heard of it…’

Li Yi mused over it for a long time and still could not remember anything about this person.

‘Maybe this guy wasn’t playing anymore in the later stages?’

Nirvana Inaction had dropped off the rankings, and there were two more players with their names revealed in the top ten. One was the ninth-placed Orchid Elf, and the other was the person in tenth place, Holy Pure Eh.

“Don’t tell me all the ones in the rankings now are casual players? Why is it that I don’t know any of them other than Old Li Flying Dagger?”

Li Yi was extremely disappointed. The reason he paid such close attention to the rankings was all because he wanted to see those old faces again.

“Wild God, Mad Saint, Lonely… Why aren’t any of these powerhouses in the rankings? Could it be that, just like me, they just didn’t make the rankings?”

His heart full of suspicions, Li Yi logged out while still in the middle of the instance dungeon.

He picked up his phone and glanced at it. There were 49 missed calls, all from Chen Yang. Ever since that punk obtained the title of Pathfinder, his head had been in the clouds, and he kept calling Li Yi non-stop.

“Fatty, congrats. I saw the news on the World Channel. Pathfinder, eh? That’s cool as hell.”

“It is… Hahahahahahahahahaha, hahahaha.”

“…”

“Lil Yi’zi, I got your back from now on. Hahahaha…”

“…”

Faced with Fatty, who had completely beside himself with glee, Li Yi only exchanged a few lines with him before he voluntarily backed down, turning off his phone and going to sleep…

When Li Yi went back online, his character appeared at the entrance to the dungeon.

This was one of the game’s settings. No matter how far into the dungeon a player had gone, as soon as they logged out, their character would automatically be sent out of the dungeon.

System Notification: [You have entered the Instance Dungeon, Frost Labyrinth.]

Although Frost Labyrinth was just a Level 10 dungeon, its difficulty level was by no means low. More players had died by Ordas’ hand than at the Wild Boar King’s tusks.

If he had not captured the Mutated Wild Boar, Li Yi definitely would not be solo-ing this place so soon.

“Roar!”

Under Li Yi’s command, the Mutated Small Wild Boar kicked up its hooves and rushed toward the three Frosty Snow Wolves at the dungeon entrance. Its Enhanced Tackle and Tear immediately attracted the attention of the three Frosty Snow Wolves that subsequently surrounded it and attacked.

In terms of ATK, the Mutated Small Wild Boar was no match for a normal Small Wild Boar. Instead, the strengths of the Mutated Small Wild Boar lay in its DEF and Ice Attribute.

The Mutated Small Wild Boar’s DEF was extremely strong, and the Ice Armor skill also reduced damage as well. On the other hand, Enhanced Tackle and Tear resulted in a large deal of aggro, so it was the best meat shield monster for the early-stage Archer.

The Frosty Snow Wolves may be Level 8, but they were still no match for the Mutated Small Wild Boar’s overpowered DEF. Their aggro was properly drawn out, and Li Yi, who stood at the back did not even have to move. He just had to keep channeling out power.

Several minutes later, the three Frosty Snow Wolves died, one after the other. The Mutated Small Wild Boar leveled up three times in a row, its HP and DEF becoming even stronger.

The Mutated Small Wild Boar grunted and snorted as it ran back to Li Yi’s side, affectionately wagging its little tail.

This was an action that showed an increase in Affinity.

System Notification: [Battle won. The Affinity between you and the Mutated Small Boar has increased by 100 points. Please give it a name. Once a pet has been named, it can bring out even more of its power in subsequent battles.]

“Old Pig.”
