Author’s Note: Thank you for continuing to read this story! It makes me so happy.
I just wanted to let you know that I changed my pen name from Ran to Ookido Izumi. (T/N: Ookido Izumi is her current pen name.)
That’s it. Thank you! I hope you continue to enjoy this series!
Translator’s Note: Happy Labor Day my fellow Americans~!
True. That’s quite a good look she has in her eyes.
Jane snorts out a splendidly scornful laugh, “What? What did you just say? Aren’t you only saying that because you like that wench?”
…..I’m really starting to think that I broke her. Jane’s personality seems to be becoming more and more deranged by the second.
I’ll admit it. That might be my fault…. but I still refuse to feel any guilt for this situation. I had nothing to do with this.
Jane took those scissors to that girl’s hair all on her own. And she’s so manic right now, it feels like any second she might just decide to stab the girl with them next.
Ah. And that would be an actual crime. Hmm, I wonder how that girl is planning to deal with all this? I can’t wait to see.
Expectantly, I look towards the girl. She looks like a deer caught in headlights: her violet eyes are wide and staring shakily at Jane….. She had been so awesome and bold just a second ago, but I guess once a blade is pointed at her she loses that resolve.
“……She just looks frightened now,” I sigh, disappointed.
“What will you do?”
“Don’t look at me like that,” I groan. “Don’t expect anything from me. It’s useless. What good does helping a weak girl like that do for me? Nothing. I can’t use her.”
My words travel across the quiet dining hall better than I had expected they would.
The girl must have heard them too, since she breaks her gaze away from Jane to look at me. This is the first time that our eyes have met. And the look in her eyes is of cruel disappointment.
Even if she gives me that look though, I’m not sure what she’s expecting me to do here. I’m a villainess, you know? It’s not in my job description to rescue pitiful damsels in distress.
“She must have heard your rejection, Alicia. The girl looks like she’s about to cry again.”
“Even so. I’m not going to do anything.”
“No? Well, I guess that’s that then.”
……What? What’s with that attitude? Since when did he start looking at me like he’s evaluating my every move? I feel like the older he becomes, this kid is just getting cheekier and cheekier. He’s such a saucy brat…..
“Looking to get a couple more inches off?” Jane cackles.
…..Those are the eyes of a criminal.
The light purple haired girl shrinks away from Jane’s words, tears dotting her eyes.
Where did all that spirit she had from earlier go? Though, maybe I’m being too hard on her. Who wouldn’t back away when someone with menacing eyes like that was coming for you with a pair of scissors aimed in your direction.
Speaking of which, does no one feel the need to step in and stop this? They’re all just watching it happen…..
I guess no one would want to step in and earn Jane’s ire themselves for their trouble. Even if most of them worship the ground that Liz-san walks on, it’s still not enough for them to put themselves at risk of bodily harm to help someone.
You see this sort of hypocrisy all the time in people. They deify Liz-san and her pretty ideals, but when push comes to shove they move through life pretending not to see any of the injustice that’s right in front of their faces….
It just makes me so angry somehow. There’s so many people here, and they’re just watching? Every. Single. One.
What a farce. Yet they want me to step in? They expect me to do something? When none of these justice touting phonies will take even a step forward to help? I’m absolutely amazed. How shameless can you be? This is just a gathering of spoiled rich kids who wouldn’t understand the word justice if it smacked them over their impeccably styled heads.
“F*cking b*stards.”
The room falls deathly silent. I can practically hear everyone’s jaws dropping from all around me.
Could that have been the first time that they heard a lady from one of the five great noble households dare utter such words? I’m sure that this moment too will be recorded in history.
I’m a woman of her word. I said I’m to be a foul-mouthed villainess so I shan’t shy away from profanity.
Jane whirls on me, her eyes wide. Even the light purple haired girl seems to stiffen. But I take no heed as I continue to calmly gaze towards her.
…..Alright. I give up. I really should give credit where credit is due. She’s not completely useless; I know it must have taken a lot of courage for her to talk back to Jane like that earlier.
Somehow, I feel like I got swept up by Gilles’s pace, but oh well.
And I’m sure the fact that my magic level surpassed 90 will be leaked sooner or later anyway. Besides, if it becomes well known, I probably won’t get caught up in these sort of annoying situations anymore, right? I may be no match for Liz-san, but I can certainly beat someone like Jane.
I’ll pretend that I can’t see Gilles grinning ear-to-ear from right next to me.
“I don’t really like showing off my power but…. oh well. Even if I kill you, it’s not my fault, okay?”
At my words, Jane visibly falters.
I feel a bit ashamed for using such underhanded methods, but sometimes drastic times call for excessive measures.
“It would seem as if you might have forgotten, but I’m the daughter of the Williams family, one of the five great noble families. And to aim such abusive intent towards me is a sin deserving of death.”
Saying that, I allow the corners of my lips to quirk up as I let a snap ring out from my fingertips.
T/N: Mwa ha ha ha!!! Go Alicia, Go! Show her who’s boss! …..Any guesses on what sort of spell she used??
Also, I had a bit of fun with chapter 159. I made a video accompaniment for it, so if you’d like to see the last chapter played out in a possibly cheesy fashion, click here to head over to YouTube~! Or you can head back over to chapter 159 since I inserted the video at the top of that page as well.
As many of you who have followed this series for a while likely now know, your translator, moi, likes to try new things. We went through a short “formality marker” period, and you know I still enjoy polls, but another thing I’ve been considering for a while is trying to add an audio option for this series. As a fan of audiobooks, it seemed like a possibly fun addition to my website and repertoire, but it would be time-consuming and I’m not sure it’s worth it. So check out the video if it’s something you’d be interested in, and let me know your thoughts on the idea!
