Yelena unconsciously turned her head at the loud and shrill voice.
“It’s not like that…”
“No way! I heard it clearly with my own ears!”
At the end of her gaze, a lady wearing a mask was raising her voice at a young painter.
The reason why the woman, who looked a little older, was presumed to be a noble was simple.
Besides the attitude that seemed to regard the young painter as inferior, most of all, her dress was one of a kind.
The abundance of expensive jewels that the average person could never dream of was decorated all over the dress.
‘What if she drops one on the street?’
Yelena inadvertently worried as she looked at someone else’s dress.
Meanwhile, the painter bowed his head so that it touched the ground.
“I-I really didn’t. It’s a misunderstanding. How could I dare disregard you, ma’am? However, some customers arrived first, so please wait for a moment…”
“You still don’t understand the situation. If you weren’t disregarding me, then what the hell was that? How dare you stand before me and talk about the order?”
The words of the two people distinctly clarified the situation.
Yelena understood what was going on as soon as she heard their conversation.
A young painter on the streets of the festival drew portraits of his customers for money.
The lady became annoyed when she was told that she had to wait for her turn to have her portrait painted by the artist.
Yelena completely understood the situation.
However, there was still something difficult to accept.
‘Why would you get a portrait painted if you’re wearing a mask?’
It was a mystery.
“Gosh, how unsophisticated…”
“She’s making such a fuss over punishing a cheeky painter.”
At that moment, the surroundings gradually became noisy.
A crowd of spectators flocked to see the situation unfold.
A few people dressed similar to Yelena, or the lady, spread their fans and whispered.
“Which family is she from? Does anyone come to mind?”
“Reddish-brown hair… I’ll have to find out.”
“I’m not going to get along with that ignorant person.”
No one seemed to want to stop the noblewoman, but there was a lot of interest in guessing her identity. Yelena narrowed her eyes as she listened to their conversation.
Once again, Yelena realized that this festival was big and famous.
‘I didn’t know there would be so many nobles…’
It was impossible to tell who was who since everyone wore a mask, but Yelena still wasn’t at ease.
If even one of them recognized her husband, their first date, at best, would remain as an unpleasant memory.
‘I can’t let that happen.’
Yelena hastily glanced around her surroundings.
She simply wanted to call in the security guards and leave quickly.
“What? N-no, how did that becoming ignoring…”
“This guy’s really out of his mind. It’s not enough to beg on the ground? How dare you talk back to me?”
Then the lady raised her hand to the painter.
It was then.
A hand gently wrapped around the lady’s wrist.
“Calm down.”
“…You.”
“I love how you look when you get angry, but I’ll get jealous if you pour all your energy into the painter instead of looking at me.”
“Jealous…”
The lady, whose eyes were covered with a butterfly mask, blushed.
On the other hand, the man, who only revealed his mouth and chin and covered the rest of his face, half-embraced the lady and gently caressed her shoulder to soothe her.
“There are many artists who can paint portraits. I’m sure there’s an artist somewhere at the festival who can capture your beauty properly. Rather than waste time here, how about we look for another painter?”
“Well, if you say so…”
“Good choice. My Mademoiselle. From now on, please allow me to be the only one to see your angry face.”
At the man’s sweet gaze and soft voice, the lady’s mood quickly softened as if she was never angry.
Seeing this, the crowd of onlookers, who had spread their fans while criticizing the lady, murmured.
“Who is that man?”
“Well. From his voice, he sounds quite young…”
“He’s a good man. It’s such a waste on such an unsophisticated person.”
Yelena was so bewildered that she almost looked back at the group of nobles who had just been whispering.
‘A good man?’
Yelena’s sullen gaze turned to the man who was still half-hugging the lady.
There was a particular reason why Yelena didn’t agree with this.
The man was close to the lady from the beginning.
This meant that he didn’t suddenly appear after hearing a commotion from somewhere.
In other words, he could have stopped her before the onlookers gathered as it was, but he didn’t.
