“Everyone else was affected by the demon powers. However, it was only ineffective… on the woman I speak of.”

Rebecca remembered the day she had attempted to kidnap Yelena. Yelena had been the only one to not get hypnotized by the gem that contained demon powers.

“…Is she a master of magic or swordsmanship?

“No, she is not. She is just an ordinary woman.”

The man’s face hardened. He appeared to contemplate for a moment, before he got up and spun his hand towards the ceiling.

It was a simple hand gesture, but its force was destructive.

Boom!

With a boom, the ceiling was destroyed without a trace.

Rebecca’s mouth fell open at the spectacle she had just witnessed, but could hardly believe. The man spread his wings and spoke.

“Lead the way. Bring me to that woman you speak of.”

Rebecca beamed in response to the man’s words.

Chapter 11 – Invasion

“Mielle.”

Mielle stopped in the middle of cutting off a corner of her cake with a fork. She regarded Yelena, who was sitting across from her. Yelena crossed her arms over her chest.

“You asked me to help you get married… Do you really mean that?”

Mielle’s letter had been short and concise.

[Yelena, please do me a favor. Help me get married to Amber. You’re the only one who can help! I’ll be waiting!]

Yelena felt Mielle’s desperation through her penmanship, the way each letter was pressed down on the paper.

Thus, Yelena went up to the capital to meet Mielle.

‘Well, honestly, I’m killing two birds with one stone.’

Sidrion happened to have been staying with her, so it wasn’t difficult to go from the ducal castle to the capital.

While Yelena was meeting up with Mielle, she also visited her family’s countdom. She had left SIdrion at the countdom—so that he could spend his time comfortably with Liliana—and had brought three guards with her to visit Mielle. Mielle promised that she would treat Yelena, who came all the way to the capital. And so, she brought her to a famous dessert shop.

Mielle nodded her head.

“Mhm, I mean it.”

“Why, all of a sudden?”

Amber and Mielle had a good relationship. Yelena was aware of that much. But marriage was a different question. Amber was an ordinary knight. His background was much too insufficient to marry Mielle, the daughter of a marquis.

‘It’ll be difficult for Amber to become more than just her lover. Mielle should be aware of that too.’

In the past, Mielle had even said that if she ever got married, she would bring Amber with her to her husband’s fief as her lover.

“Well…”

Hah. Mielle put her fork down and let out a sigh.

“I had a dream.”

“What kind of dream?”

“A dream about my dad marrying me off to some dirty, smelly, ugly, and old nobleman!”

Yelena was utterly dumbfounded.

“What are you talking about?”

“Think about it. I’m eventually going to be basically sold off as someone’s wife for my family’s benefit. But what if that someone is old and ugly?”

Mielle went pale.

“I’d rather marry Amber by any means possible! Help me convince my dad, Yelena. Hm?”

Yelena was silent for a moment, furrowing her brow. To think that Mielle had written to her for such an absurd reason.

“Wake up, Mielle. Do you really think Uncle would marry you off to a dirty, smelly, ugly, and old nobleman?”

“Why wouldn’t he? If it helps the family, it’s very much possible!”

“Just what do you take your dad for? You know how much he loves you. He’d definitely find you a nice husband…”

“Ugh, I don’t know! He even tried marrying me off to a monster! But you think he wouldn’t be able to marry me off to an old man?” Mielle shouted. She shut her mouth a beat late.

‘Oops,’ her expression seemed to say, but the words had already come out.

“Um, Yelena. I didn’t mean that…”

“Mielle.”

“Uh, yes?”

“Marry Sir Amber, or don’t. Handle it yourself. And while I’m saying it nicely, don’t contact me first anymore.”

“Yelena! Wait!”

Yelena got up and left without looking back. She grabbed the handle of the shop’s door roughly.

“…?”

‘A scream?’

Did she hear that correctly? She thought she heard an ear-splitting scream from outside the shop.

‘What was that?’

Yelena opened the door with a puzzled look and stepped outside.

It was at that very moment.

“Madam, please dodge!”

Yelena heard an urgent voice, and then a strong knight pulled her into his arms. Simultaneously, a pitch black beast darted forward and dug its claws into the knight’s back.
