“Ovell.”
Rebecca turned around, facing Ovell.
“What is your desire?”
“Huh?”
“What is the thing you long for most earnestly?”
Perhaps the magic had already faded away, as Rebecca’s face was back to normal. Ovell swallowed down his saliva, seeing the beautiful face that was exactly his type.
“I don’t know… Returning to the fief as soon as possible and living cozily with you, I guess?”
“To put it nicely, love. To put it simply, lust.”
“Pardon?”
“Such a primitive and worthless desire.”
Rebecca’s voice was as soft as the fluttering of a butterfly’s wings, but the words she spoke didn’t suit her alluring voice at all.
“Rebecca?”
“So, no matter how hard you try, you’d never live up to my ambition.”
“Rebecca, what are you…”
“Michael.”
Rebecca glanced at Michael. Instantly, Ovell’s spine straightened with a sense of foreboding. Ovell opened his mouth.
“Wait…!”
Crack.
In one swift moment, Ovell’s neck bent at a strange angle.
Ovell fell to the ground like a puppet whose strings were cut. He couldn’t even scream.
“…”
Rebecca cleared away the carpet that was on the floor. Then, she dragged Ovell’s body to the center of the summoning spell.
Rebecca took out a blade she had been carrying. In her head, she recalled the contents of the parchment she had read.
[How to Summon a Stronger Creature
If you wish to summon a more dangerous, but that much more powerful, creature, follow the instructions below.
Prepare a sacrifice.
Put the dead sacrifice over the summoning spell and slit their throat.
Mix their blood with the summoner’s blood.
The sacrifice’s ambition while they were alive must be weaker than the summoner’s ambition.
*Warning: The process is extremely dangerous, so it is not recommended.]
Rebecca had erased the final warning from her memory. She cut downwards with her blade.
Rebecca’s desire was simple. Simple, but awfully deep and desperate.
‘I want to kill them.’
Duke and Duchess Mayhard, the ones who had foiled all of her plans and almost killed her.
She wanted to kill them. She wanted revenge. She wanted to kill them. She wanted to kill them.
She wanted to kill them, one way or another!
After slashing Ovell’s throat without hesitation, Rebecca slit her own wrist. Her blood mixed with the tremendous amount of blood that was spilling from Ovell’s corpse.
The summoning spell absorbed the blood as if it was alive.
Then, a black fog emerged from the spell.
“…Fog?”
Rebecca had summoned creatures countless times, but she had never seen such a fog. Rebecca mumbled to herself like an idiot.
Boom!
The lamp exploded and the light went out.
Bang!
Then, Rebecca heard the table collapse.
Crack!
In the darkness, the sound of the heavy iron doors crumpling down was loud and clear.
Instinctively, Rebecca backed away from the summoning spell.
“Gasp!”
In an instant, Rebecca sank to the ground, feeling like she was being strangled.
“Young Miss—kurk!”
Michael staggered as he tried to approach Rebecca. He fell to his knees.
“Cough!”
Michael coughed out blood and passed out.
“…What the.”
A quiet voice echoed faintly in the dreary underground room.
“It’s a human.”
Blaze. A fire blazed in midair, driving out the darkness.
It was only then that Rebecca raised her head and was able to see what had appeared before her.
He didn’t appear to be human. He had a tall and sturdy build and eyes as red as blood. His gray hair reached his ankles.
And…
‘Wings.’
The topless man had a pair of batwings coming out of his back.
Rebecca trembled against her will as she looked up at the young man.
“Hm? …Well, look at that.”
Upon discovering an unconscious Michael, a look of excitement crept on the young man’s face.
“That thing is only half-human. Did he drink our blood?”
Rebecca bit her tongue with force. The disgusting taste of blood filled her mouth and brought it open.
“Wh-who… are you?”
“Me?”
He was different from all the other creatures Rebecca had summoned up until now, not just in appearance. Everything about him was different.
A strong pressure weighed down Rebecca’s entire body. All she could do was tilt her head up to look at the man. Her legs had given out and she couldn’t get up.
‘I can’t breathe.’
Rebecca felt suffocated, like she was trapped underwater. Just as she barely managed to catch her breath, the young man opened his mouth.
“The Demon King.”
