"Damn! Dayum! Dammit!" Compass Carburettor lost control of his mouth, unleashing a string of expletives as that was the only way he could maintain a sense of bearing in this situation.
The cars on the road honked continuously, as the sounds of sirens, tyres screeching, etc. resounded nonstop, zooming in and out of his ears. He constantly overtook cars to speed further, not even considering the fact that he was now driving in the opposite lane.
The reason he had done so was because the encroachment of the grass on his lane was faster. And, just before he crossed over to the opposite lane, he shifted his attention to a car that lost control and moved to the side, treading atop the dense overgrowth.
It skid through the ground, causing a lot of green paste to drip out of the wheels, a result of it grinding the grass. But, that wasn't the issue. The moment the car had gone over the area covered by the grass, it stopped rapidly, as if its brakes had been slammed to the limit.
But in actuality, green paste continued to spill out of it as the tire wheels continued to spin at their maximum speed. The reason the car had stopped was due to the grass extending its way until it coiled through the holes in the car's chassis.
And they had repeatedly done the same until they managed to root the car to one place.
The driver just recovered from the abrupt stop, watching the airbag begin to deflate as he came to his senses. But, just as he planned to get out of the car, he noticed to his alarm that his legs failed to move.
And no, it wasn't due to his legs being stuck or anything. They just failed to budge. Fearing something, he pulled up his pants, screaming in horror.
Aaargh!
Something from the floor of the car had pierced through his feet and were now squirming up his legs like nerves. Worst of all, it was like his legs had been injected with anaesthetic as he didn't even feel any pain.
But, the sense of horror was unimaginable as he continued to scream before turning strangely silent. He then turned around, facing the passenger in the seat of a nearby car that too had stopped for the same reason as him.
The passenger's face was pale with fright, looking like she was about to faint, unable to tolerate the fear. But suddenly, her expression turned serene as she gazed at him in return, smiling in response.
"Sheeeeet!" As similar situations were happening all over the sides of the road that had been overrun by the grass, Compass Carburettor was able to spot all the strangeness.
He then screamed in anger, "Drive fast! Fucker!"
For the car before him was travelling slow, too slow, as if they weren't in a hurry despite the situation that was happening before them. Based on the jumping silhouettes within the SUV, it was a group of college students that were partying while driving. The driver was also mildly drunk.
They had the music at full blast and were making a mess of things. That's why they were driving slowly. Normally, that wouldn't have been a problem since people could overtake them easily on the six-lane highway.
But now, they were blocking the only proper part of the road that wasn't covered by the grass yet. Without any hesitation, Compass Carburettor stared in anger as the driver of the SUV suddenly turned the wheel right, causing the vehicle to move out of the way.
Skill—Directional Misalignment!
Using the chance, Compass Carburettor accelerated forward with all his might, not caring about the people that he pushed over the edge of the cliff of life. They were doomed anyway due to their ignorance.
And, he didn't wish to drown with them for their acts of foolishness. He was pretty angry himself, not to mention feeling the pressure as grass continued to creep forth towards him at a faster and faster pace.
"Ooi! Get up!" Compass Carburettor shouted through telepathy, watching the cobra exit the bag as he spoke, "Barf out the corpse of the one-horned mongoose. We'll have to escape on foot next and I don't want to carry too much weight."
"Don't worry! I'll feed you plenty in the future to turn you fatter than a python on a full stomach!" He shouted.
"You don't need to say that much, Uncle Spirit!" The cobra said through telepathy before facing the backseat as it coughed a couple of times before wholly barfing out all the contents in its stomach.
It then felt a bit weak, soon slithering into the bag upon his instructions, using its tail to tighten everything within it to prevent anything from spilling out.
There were still some useful tools within them that might prove useful, especially stuff like the lighter and the flashlights. After all, it was already evening now, with the climate soon turning dark.
He needed them to see clearly in the dark.
Compass Carburettor strapped the bag around his shoulders, cross-checking to see that he hadn't lost the orb of the one-horned bird and the two pearls he had collected. And in his pockets were the Armaments that he was ready to use when necessary.
Now that he was ready, he extended his left hand backwards, grabbing hold of the one-horned mongoose's horn to pull it forward before stuffing it in his boot space, causing its body to press upon the accelerator.
He stomped on its body a couple of times, ensuring the accelerator would continue to be at maximum and wouldn't move up. He also rolled down the window, peeking his head out as he stared at the line of grass approaching his tyres.
He wished to take advantage of the vehicle as much as possible and hence wished to vacate it at the last minute possible. A minute later, the moment he watched the border of the grass touch his tyres, he jumped out of the car and stood on the roof, watching the cars a hundred metres before him coming to a stop one after another.
Moreover, he was able to feel a mild drag in his car, calming his thumping heart as he took in a deep breath, expending some Darlac to condense his boots before leaping off.
Half a second after he had jumped off, his car abruptly screeched to a halt within ten metres, raking up noise as its tyres continued to screech.
But a dozen seconds later, all sounds died down.
