[Systems: 38]
The moment he activated Info Scanner (Level 1), Compass Carburettor only had one emotion running in his mind, 'Fuck!'
In the Darble World, he had to remain as cautious as possible just to hunt down one System. And to achieve that, he had made use of the strongest Great Empire in that world that had been inhabiting the strongest Dungeon Monster species, the Haggon.
And now, it wasn't one or two, but a total of 38 Systems that he had to face, 'Wait, one of them might be the Coincidental Luck System. Still, that makes no difference.'
"37…" He muttered, sighing as he firmed his decision, 'I'll create an Armament.'
The Armament he could create on his own was only capable of condensing a weak energy blade that was a metre long. It wasn't even worth mentioning. After all, he was only making use of the nerves that are rich of Darlac condensed within a Haggon's horns to use them as a Darble circuit to empower an Armament.
They weren't proper Armaments that he could use to effectively output strong energy blades. After all, the structural rigidity of an energy blade was dependent on the amount of Darlac he could condense in it.
But, there was still an option for him to create a proper Armament. And, that was to make use of the Darble Horn growing on his forehead. If he was a regular Haggon, he could make use of it.
The only problem was the fact that his Darlac reserves would be permanently shaved off based on how large a piece of the Darble Horn he was breaking. That would mean weakening himself.
But in his case, his Warble had already fused into his Darble Horn, turning it into a tiny kite-shaped crystal on his forehead. So, it was even harder than a regular Darble. To damage it wasn't possible even with the most sophisticated of means.
And if he still managed to do so, it would mean damaging his Warble. That was why he had no way to create a proper Armament. 'But, once I reach Transcendence, I'll be able to exert my true strength. I'll work on attaining that in this world. With that, I'll have more leeway in attacking a System.'
So, he planned to create a basic Armament using the horns of his Haggon form. Regular swords would get chipped from use. But his Armament won't be damaged. After all, he was only using the energy blade to attack.
'It might not prove useful later, but at the start of the apocalypse, it would be fairly useful. Only time would tell.' He thought, sensing through Info Scanner that there wasn't any System in his vicinity.
'At level 1, the detection range is only a kilometre. It seems this ability will have a range of 10 kilometres at level 10. So, only when a System appears in this range would I gain information related to it. Until then, all I would see is the information related to the number of Systems present in the world.' He finalised his thoughts, planning on increasing the level of Info Scanner (Level 1).
"Are you the one recruited by the boss?" A middle-aged man entered the staff room, asking upon seeing Compass Carburettor seated there.
"Yes, sir." Compass Carburettor stood up in respect, saying, "Since I require money, I don't mind if the working hours are high."
"Alright, suit yourself." The manager nodded, 'Since the boss hired him, I'll just let him work without caring about the details.'
He then asked, "Do you have any experience in working at cafes before?"
"Yes," Compass Carburettor nodded, having worked in a couple of cafes on Earth. That was where he had met his wife.
"Then, you can work as the second cashier here. There would be a lot of people during the evening, so learn everything from the staff by then." Saying his piece, the manager left the staff room.
Compass Carburettor changed into his uniform and exited the staff room, noticing a couple of staff working in the kitchen. They were preparing the base materials necessary for all the pastries needed for the evening.
This was so that they could finish everything readily by order. It not only saved up the preparation time but also kept everything fresh.
There was a TV installed in the wall, playing the news. While he walked across the kitchen, Compass Carburettor heard a couple of lines said by the news anchor.
"At 11:32 AM, in the southern suburbs of Deison City, a man was clobbered to death by a Pomeranian that grew a foot in height overnight. Research teams are still investigating the cause."
'It's here!' Compass Carburettor noticed the issue, thinking, 'So, the animals would mutate. Is that how this apocalypse plays out?'
"Hello there, sorry for rejecting you earlier. We had already hired someone yesterday and had forgotten to remove the recruitment notice." The cashier put on a cordial smile, extending his hand for a handshake, "I'm Fernsher, by the way. How may I address you?"
"You were only following the rules of the place," Compass Carburettor smiled in return, shaking his hands with the other party, "You can call me Compass."
"Are you a student?" Fernsher asked, noticing that Compass Carburettor seemed around his age, "All of us working here are from the Melora Technical Institute of Sciences. What about you?"
"I…dropped out." Compass Carburettor smiled wryly, acting like he didn't wish to talk about the matter further.
"Haha, it's fine." Fernsher laughed it along, acting as if he hadn't cursed Compass Carburettor before, beginning to guide him through all the things necessary to work at the place.
There wasn't much on the menu, only about 50 items. And, as he only had to act as a cashier, all he needed to do was memorise the items, understand the technicalities of the network they were using to bill, and use the cash drawer without problems.
After thirty minutes, he got a hang of things, having already memorised everything down to the dot.
"Around 4 PM is when it gets busy. The girls from the Stronvile University of Arts would arrive here. And…it'll become a bit chaotic." Fernsher laughed wryly.
"I hope I'll be able to handle everything on my first day." Compass Carburettor said politely, then acting friendly with the other party, asking casually, "Also, when would we receive our pay?"
"Since we are students, we receive our pay when our shift ends." Fernsher said, "Though, it'll only end at 10:00 PM. So, we'll have to persevere until then."
"Alright," Compass Carburettor nodded, thinking as he saw a couple of customers enter the café, 'I still need to find a place to stay for the night.'
