"You are still a System Host."
The words slammed into Compass Carburettor, causing him to gasp for breath as he was suddenly full of fear, afraid that he would be subjected to a System's control once again.
After all, even while on Earth, it wasn't always that he praised the Money-Making System. Even though it gave him plenty of awards, it also forced him to perform countless quests that always placed him in trouble or put him in embarrassing situations.
But, due to the fact that the abilities it gave stirred his greed enough to bend to its will voluntarily, he had never thought of the Money-Making System as something beyond a tool of convenience, one that would allow him to rule the world.
But over time, his priorities changed. With the birth of his daughter, his ambition changed from dominating the world to spending more time with her. And over time, he started to resist the Money-Making System, suffering from its punishments to never perform any Quests that placed his family at risk.
And now that he realised the truth about Systems, he never wished to rely on them ever again, despite them being tools of convenience that would allow even trash like him to reach the peak of the world.
His objective was to rescue Stencil. He didn't wish to become something that was forced to perform quests to the extent he failed to save her.
But, just as he was wheezing about in worry, the Coincidental Luck System laughed, "Hey man, relax! The situation isn't like what you expect."
A dozen seconds later, Compass Carburettor barely managed to gather his bearing, apologising, "Sorry for showing such a scene."
"It's fine, I've seen something like this so many times that I am not even entertained by it." The Coincidental Luck System said nonchalantly, "You see, the person that managed to rescue you made it seem like becoming a System Slayer is easy if the one saving you is strong enough, right?"
"Yes," Recalling Fourth's words, Compass Carburettor nodded.
"Reality isn't like that since most System Slayers aren't privy to this fact." The Coincidental Luck System laughed, "From the time when the System Slayers first appeared till now, there have only been 1000 System Slayers. And, this number can only decrease but never exceed beyond that."
Upon seeing his confusion, it grinned, saying, "Of course you are privy of system novels, right?"
Seeing him nod, it continued, "What do you call someone who resists definite demise and returns with stellar brilliance?"
He didn't even have to think much before saying spontaneously, "The Main Character."
"Exactly!" The Coincidental Luck System nodded, "And, what do you call a System Host that manages to survive being devoured?"
Seeing his eyes widen, it snorted, "And, there's a bastard whose domain of authority is exactly that."
With a solemn tone, it uttered, "The Main Character System."
"The Main Character System…" Compass Carburettor muttered, shuddering. Of course, if he was talking from the perspective of a story, no matter how much overpowered a character was, they were only helpless against one character.
And, it was the character around whom the story revolves, the Main Character. It could be said that once the Main Character vanishes, the story ends.
And, if there existed a System with such an authority, then it needn't be considered. This was the most powerful System in existence.
"So, I'm the Host of this Main Character System?" Compass Carburettor asked, unable to digest this fact.
"Not precisely," The Coincidental Luck System shook its head, "Unlike every other System in existence that is birthed in the System World before travelling to other worlds to find hosts, the Main Character System doesn't appear in the System World with a body of its own."
It snorted once, speaking in distaste, "It is birthed within a person the moment he/she becomes a System Slayer. Moreover, the reason no System Slayer knows about this is due to the fact that only a fragment of the Main Character System is present in them."
"There are 1000 fragments of it in total. And, each fragment is present in a System Slayer. That's the main condition as to how their abilities work in the first place." It said, "It is the bridge tying the body of the System in you to your respective world, allowing you to maintain a Personal Fragment."
"Then, what does it actually want? Or, will it even do anything?" He felt confused, failing to understand its purpose of existence.
"Do you know the method in which a Grade 1 System can advance to become a Grade 2 System?" It asked, automatically answering in response, "After reaching Level 99, a Grade 1 System has to devour all the other Systems in the same genre as it. And, once all the powers of the respective genre are in it, it becomes a Grade 2 System."
"That's the reason Systems are antagonistic to one another." It continued, "And, the Main Character System is the only one in its genre. So, all it needs is to reach Level 99 before automatically advancing into Grade 2. But,"
It shook its head, "It cannot maintain a physical body like the rest of us Systems in the System World. So from the start, this option doesn't exist for it."
"Once a System Slayer becomes a True System Slayer and reaches Level 99, the conditions would be met." It said solemnly, "The one that manages this would then have to hunt all the other System Slayers, all 999 others, and devour them. After that, he himself would become the Main Character System."
"Wait, you mean to say the one that achieves that won't become the Host of the Main Character System, but becomes the Main Character System himself?" Compass Carburettor was shocked.
"That is how it seems to be. But, it has never once happened until now. Rather, no System Slayer ever managed to reach Level 99." It laughed, "After all, the moment a System Slayer crosses Level 50, they'll be hunted down by the Grade 2 Systems."
