For most students, there should be one or two unpleasant events that they had to experience during their whole school life.

Self-introductions that always occurred every time a new school year started, the various exams, extra classes on summer vacation, the Sports Festival that happened under the scorching sun, the marathon in the winter and so on. Each person would have different opinions, but there was barely anyone who’d enjoy every event in existence.

However, if there was one event that they would definitely not look forward to, it would be the parent-teacher interview that would be held in mid-October.

The school had already announced the midterm results yesterday. As for the rankings, average grades and other details, they will be announced by the Homeroom teacher during the interview.

If your grades were good, you wouldn’t need to be concerned about it, but if they weren’t…

As I was relaxing while drinking my coffee with Umi, who had come to pick me up, she suddenly mentioned about the interview.

“So, the parent-teacher interview is today, but where did your mom go? Won’t she be coming?”

“Yes, of course. Her workplace said that she can attend the interview, but she’d have to come back to work again until late at night to make up for it.”

“I see. My mom was thinking of inviting her for dinner, but I guess she can’t, huh?”

According to the schedule, our class would hold the parent-teacher interview on the same date, at the same time. So, this was the first time in a while that our parents could meet each other.

If my mom could take a few more hours off, she and Sora-san would probably start exposing our embarrassing past to each other… I felt bad for my mom, but at the same time, I felt relieved that I wouldn’t need to go through that.

…Or maybe not. They’d still meet each other at school, so there was a huge chance that they’d do that there anyway.

“Speaking of the parent-teacher interview… Guess someone like both of us wouldn’t have any problem with it, huh, Maki? What did you write on your career choice paper? Going to a higher education?”

“Yeah. I was stumped on my third university choice though.”

The other day, I submitted my career choice paper to my Homeroom Teacher. As planned, I wrote that I would be continuing my study at a university.

To be specific, the same university that Umi would go to. I even listed that I’d be taking the same major as her.

Just like in high school, we’d also be going to class together, having lunch together, studying together, breathing the same air, and hopefully… Living under the same roof. Well, that might sound like wishful thinking, but both of us had agreed that we wouldn’t live in different houses after we graduate.

We were too dependent on each other. Like, we’d actually die if we were to enter a long-distance relationship.

“I see. Well, now that I think about it, we’ll be graduating in a year and a half… We really need to start thinking about our future properly… From what our goals are in the university and where we would work after we graduate…”

“Right. They said that after you graduate from high school, you’re pretty much an adult already.”

Now that they lowered the age for ‘adulthood’ from 20 to 18, both Umi and I would be treated as proper adults by society soon.

…But, even though that time was practically right in front of our eyes, I still couldn’t imagine how it would feel to be an adult.

“…Umi.”

“Hm?”

“Have you thought about what you want to do in the future?”

“Well, firstly, I want to be a good wife to you~”

“Pfft!”

Hearing her saying something so outrageous made me almost spill out my coffee. I managed to hold it from coming out of my mouth and stained my uniform, but that was way too close for comfort.

“Are you okay? Jeez, seriously, you’re so careless, Maki! Come over, let me wipe it for you~”

“S-Sorry… I’m fine, I was just… Surprised…”

“Hehe, sorry about that, I was joking~ Well, half-joking, actually.”

Umi wore an apologetic look on her face, but I could also see a faint blush there. She wiped the coffee out of my mouth with her handkerchief.

…Anyway, it seemed like I wasn’t the only one who felt conscious about the prospect of ‘marriage’ here. Currently, we were in a serious relationship. While we didn’t openly announce this to everyone, but we had done the things that couples had done. (T/N: S*x)

“…Um, Umi-san?”

“Yes?”

“Uh… From now on, I’ll work even harder for my studies.”

“For me?”

“Yes. For you.”

“Alright, do it then. Next semester, you’ll have to enter the top ten at the very least.”

“…T-That’s quite a goal…”

“I thought you said you’ll study even harder?”

“…I did, yes.”

“Hehe, then, walk the walk~ Anyway, I’ll do my best too.”

I didn’t know what the future held for us, so I decided that for now, I’d tackle everything one at a time.

And the first hurdle I needed to overcome was Asanagi-sensei’s ridiculous demand.
