Chapter 62: Her Royal Highness Talks Sense
Zuo You clutched his chest. Gu Xinglang had already thrashed him once on the battlefield, so did Princess Linglong mean her husband was supposed to beat him up again in the future? How could she say something so heartless to the guy treating her out for lunch? Was that really good?
“Eat some more,” Yu Xiaoxiao picked up half a meat dumpling and delivered it to Gu Xinglang’s lips. She didn’t notice Zuo You’s depression at all. Of course, even if she had, it was impossible to guess what he was feeling under all that beard.
Gu Xinglang opened his mouth to eat half of the dumpling, before murmuring, “Don’t worry about me, just eat.”
Under the gazes of everyone present in a public location, Gu Xinglang was still having his wife feed him by hand. Zuo You suddenly realized that this stiff and expressionless general on the field was an absolutely shameless scum!
In truth, Gu Xinglang was actually a pure and innocent young man, but he’d gotten so used to Yu Xiaoxiao feeding him these days that he opened his mouth automatically whenever she offered him food. He didn’t realize people were watching them here.
“Damned Fengtianers!” The curse travelled through the window while Third Young Master Gu was still chewing on his dumpling.
Xiao Zhuang was the first to run to the window and look outside. Unsurprised by the view, he told Yu Xiaoxiao, “Princes, a few Zhuri merchants are bullying people.”
“Sir, please show magnanimity. This one has a family to raise, so I cannot agree to this, ah,” an old man’s cries carried through the window after Xiao Zhuang’s report.
Zuo You rose to leave the table and make the window as well. He looked downstairs before turning to Gu Xinglang. “There’s five or six Zhuri fellows picking on one of your Fengtian old men. Do those Zhuri types even seen you Fengtianers as humans?”
Gu Xinglang almost rose to look himself, but the movement reminded him that he couldn’t even walk right now. Yu Xiaoxiao pressed him in his seat and said, “Don’t be anxious, I’ll take a look.”
As the curses and sobbing grew in intensity, it seemed like the situation had turned urgent. But despite this, Yu Xiaoxiao couldn’t abandon her table full of food just to play hero. Thus, right after she spoke, she resumed eating her meal. Zuo You watched the other men beat the older one. Even though he had a low opinion of Fengtian, he couldn’t take the sight. All those Zhuri types act like bigshots wherever they go. Don’t they know to respect their elders and cherish the young? Climbing onto the window, Grand Marshal Zuo leaped to the ground before.
The three retainers immediately followed in his wake. Xiao Zhuang looked blankly at Yu Xiaoxiao. Are we getting involved or not?
Xiao Wei said, “You go back and sit down. The city governor will take care of this. You want the princess to get involved in some random merchant’s affairs?”
Xiao Zhuang glanced out the window. “That’s true, ah. But there’s a few hat-wearing monks standing on the sidelines.”
Monks? Gu Xinglang furrowed his brows. Before he could speak to Yu Xiaoxiao, his wife had already gone to the window. Rather than holding onto the sill, she’d jumped straight through the opening. Xiao Zhuang was about to follow when Gu Xinglang called out, “Hold it, you two bring me downstairs.”
Quietly, Xiao Wei stood behind Gu Xinglang and said, “Royal Son-in-Law, don’t be hasty. Those Zhuri merchants aren’t capable of hurting the princess.” He believed unto death that their princess would even be undefeated in the battlefield with such strength, to say nothing of a few measly merchants.
—
Yu Xiaoxiao landed downstairs and was about to tell everyone to stop fighting when Zuo You ran to her side. “Princess, we can’t get involved in this matter.”
“Hm?” Yu Xiaoxiao looked at the tall, strapping fellows surrounding their victim. “Daheck not?”
“What ‘daheck?’” Zuo You asked.
“Didn’t you say they were just merchants?” Yu Xiaoxiao pointed at the Zhuri men. Unless they’re the richest men in the world so ordinary folks can’t afford to offend them?
Zuo You showed Yu Xiaoxiao the monks who were wearing broad-brimmed hats on the sidelines. White gauze hung from the hats’ edges, obscuring their faces. Meanwhile, Yu Xiaoxiao noticed another Zhuri man raising his foot to aim for the old man’s head. “You hold on,” Yu Xiaoxiao told the man.
Of course he wouldn’t listen to a mere Fengtian girl, so his foot kept moving. Yu Xiaoxiao could only step forward and drag the old man behind her back. Seeing this, all of the other Zhuri merchants moved to surround their little interloper.
Zuo You ran behind Yu Xiaoxiao and shouted at the merchants, “You first bullied the old, but now you’re picking on the young? Aren’t you ashamed as men to be doing these things?”
Zuo You didn’t speak in the Fengtian dialect, so the merchants were more courteous to him. The man who’d been ready to kick pointed at the old man kneeling behind Yu Xiaoxiao. “That old thing dared to trick us!”
The old man already had a nosebleed from being beaten, but tears flowed down his face at the accusation. “This one has been doing the merchant business for many years. When have I ever hidden what I’ve done? Sirs, please use judgment.”
A Zhuri man three a bundle of incense on the ground. Zuo You looked at the broken incense sticks, which were already affected with damp and thus spoiled. “You sold damp incense sticks?” he asked the old man.
The old man shook his head. “This couldn’t be the goods I sold. When the sirs came to pick up the goods, they even checked it themselves.”
“Are you saying we’re the ones who tricked you?!” a Zhuri merchant roared.
Xiao Zhuang and Xiao Wei had appeared downstairs with Gu Xinglang by now. As they joined the crowd, Gu Xinglang looked at the monks with a gloomy face.
“Hurry and get out of the way,” the merchant in front of Yu Xiaoxiao pointed a finger at her. “This has nothing to do with you, so don’t go seeking death.”
Xiao Wei shut his eyes. Isn’t he the one who’s seeking death?
Yu Xiaoxiao wasn’t in a rush to fight, but looked at him and said, “Let’s talk sensibly first.”
Gu Xinglang, Xiao Zhuang, and Xiao Wei all touched their foreheads at her words. Oh lord, it’s hard enough for her to talk sense with us, much less some foreigners.
