Chapter 17: You Can’t Kill Lord Zhao

Before Zhao Qiuming could speak, Wang momo had already ran onto the scene with Gu Xun and Gu Jin in her arms. Once again, she shouted loud enough to reach the clouds above.

“Princess, ah, bad news! Lord Zhao’s set fire to your bridal chambers!”

Zhao Qiuming promptly spat up blood. This mistress and servant pair must have planned it all in advance!

Wang momo kept running for the entrance while shouting at the top of her lungs. She gave a start at the countless imperial guards outside, then asked with concern, “Princess, you–you’re not hurt, right?”

The crowd remained silent. Chubby auntie, can’t you see the princess is standing on top of Lord Zhao right now?

Yu Xiaoxiao checked to make sure the two little ones in Wang momo’s arms were unhurt, then asked, “Where’s Gu Xinglang?”

Wang momo said, “The royal son-in-law and second young master are both uninjured. Princess, Lord Zhao must be trying to wipe us all out. He even burned down such a nice house. Oh, that’s right,” Wang momo looked around, “Where’s Lord Zhao?”

“Look down,” someone prompted Wang momo from the sidelines.

Wang momo knew the princess was stepping on someone, but his face was so covered in blood that she didn’t recognize him. The helpful reminder made her look closer until she realize the face was as swollen as a pig’s It was impossible for her to identify the victim as Lord Zhao.

“What’s the crime for arson and murder?” Yu Xiaoxiao asked.

“The death penalty, ah,” Wang momo answered.

Without a word, Yu Xiaoxiao raised a hand to hack at Zhao Qiuming’s throat. Seeing the saber in the air, Zhao Qiuming howled before losing consciousness.

“Hold it!” Ying Nianyun cried out quickly. Yu Xiaoxiao stopped with the blade a centimeter away from Zhao Qiuming’s throat to look at Grand Secretary Ying.

“Why?” she asked him.

Ying Nianyun explained, “Your Royal Highness, you can’t just kill him like this.”

Yu Xiaoxiao didn’t understand the humans of this world. Wasn’t this an enemy? Why couldn’t she kill him?

Ying Nianyun said, “Your Royal Highness, only His Majesty can determine Zhao Qiuming’s life or death.”

What could they rely on that guy for? Yu Xiaoxiao began to speak. “Someone as fatuous as him–”

Wang momo coughed a few times to stop Yu Xiaoxiao from cursing His Majesty in public.

“Father!” Zhao Beicheng was now running over while covered in blood. After being kicked aside, he didn’t dare risk his life a second time, but stood at a safe distance and shouted, “Father, are you alright?!”

Gu Xingnuo only gave a cold snort. Someone as spineless as him dared to claim that he pressed back the White Tiger Nation’s 10,000 cavalrymen?

“You can’t kill him,” Wang momo dearly wanted to see Consort Zhao’s father dead, but she understood that they couldn’t kill an important official out in the public without questioning or putting him on trial. Even if they were in the right, it’d be an unjustified murder, so she could only shake her head at Yu Xiaoxiao.

“It won’t cost me any effort to kill him,” Yu Xiaoxiao didn’t get it.

More coughs rose from the crowd. Everyone wanted to say, Your Royal Highness, that’s the prime minister, alright? He’s not some dog you can kill on a whim. Is it really okay for you to cheapen him like that?

Yu Xiaoxiao observed the spectators’ expressions before tossing the saber aside. If she knew it’d turn out like this, she would have chosen a more secluded place to beat him up. Meanwhile, Zhao Beicheng threw himself at Yu Xiaoxiao’s feet as soon as her weapon was gone to save his father. But Yu Xiaoxiao beat him to it and hauled the unconscious Zhao Qiuming to his feet.

“Fine then,” she said, “I’ll bring him to see my da–my imperial father.”

“Prepare the carriage!” Wang momo promptly shouted. This is fine. We can take the trouble to the palace and have His Majesty deal with it.

Yu Xiaoxiao looked at the horses waiting outside before dragging Lord Zhao after her. She leaped astride a stallion. In her previous life, she knew how to ride a ride, drive a car, and fly a plane, but she’d never ridden any horses. The first thing she did was pull at its mane. Startled by the pain, the horse went galloping wildly into the distance.

“There’s still someone on the ground!” the imperial guards cried.

“You’ve spooked the horse!” the Gu Clan’s allies yelled.

“Princess, wait for this servant!” Wang momo exclaimed.

“You’re still planning to kill my father?!” Zhao Beicheng howled.

The crowd suddenly fell silent at his words. Her Royal Highness looked safe and secure on the horse’s saddle, but what about the unconscious Zhao Qiuming she was dragging by her side? His body bounced up and down in tune with the horse’s hoofbeats like a kite on a string. Would Lord Zhao survive the trip to the palace gates?

“Whose horse is that?” someone asked.

Zhao Beicheng swept his gaze over the remaining steeds before his heart grew stifled. It was his battle horse!

By now, Gu Xingyan had arrived from the inner courtyard with Gu Xinglang on his back. He didn’t have time to see what was going on, so he simply asked, “How are things?”

Gu Xinglang didn’t spot a girl in wedding robes within the crowds and grew anxious. “Where is Her Royal Highness?”Everyone looked towards the royal son-in-law with complicated expressions on their faces. Hehehe, to marry such a fierce wife, Third Young Master Gu’s days in the future will be… The crowd couldn’t help but laugh dryly to themselves. Heheheh.
