I would smash while Goff blocked. It seemed to be a simple task, but it really wasn’t. Ridiculously, Goff was mostly either dodging or blocking the b.a.s.t.a.r.d’s attacks. To be precise, he was defending against what I deemed to be indefensible attacks. Even though the stamina of the Beast of the East has been drained due to the accumulated damages, and that Goff was getting the support from of the sorcerers’ spells, it was truly awesome to see Goff defending against the Beast’s front paw stomping attacks. In addition, as if to highlight his skill, his ax was continually inflicting injuries on the bastard, and giving me more mobility.
I wasn’t sure whether it was because of Black Spear or not, but one head of the beast was paying attention to the main unit, I was able to trust that the main unit would be protected as Gara and Orbo were defending them.
Once again, I swung my sword and Goff his ax, doing our best to do such harm that the Beast would forget the main unit, and focus on our damages to its front paw.
“Krehhhhhh!”
The screams continued to reverberate throughout, and when we were certain that the Beast of the East was focusing on us, the main unit began to attack again.
Between quick-changing weapons and dodging the b.a.s.t.a.r.d’s unrelenting attacks, our fire power was depleting, but somehow, we’ve managed to stand our ground. Burdened with my presence, Goff, too, was close to reaching his limits.
As if they recognized our situation, the main unit rushed in and attacked the Beast. Even with countless arrows and spells piercing the b.a.s.t.a.r.d, his gaze was locked solely in our direction.
Perhaps, the Beast thought that the attack which severed one of its heads was so threatening that it couldn’t afford to launch any direct attacks, other than its breath.
“Krehhhhhh!”
When the other head was looking over in this direction, Black Spear threw a gray-lit spear into it.
The gray light was immediately absorbed into the b.a.s.t.a.r.d’s eye. Overcome with pain, the b.a.s.t.a.r.d screamed. While the Beast was wondering whether to charge towards Black Spear or towards us, another spear landed and pierced into him. Black Spear likely had very few of those left since I wasn’t there to rearm him.
Reaching its limitations, the Beast of the East staggered heavily towards Goff and myself. The b.a.s.t.a.r.d was already exhausted, and he wasn’t the only one. Still, Goff raised his shield once more and I prepared to launch myself again.
“Pull!!”
“Pull!!!”
Again, the Ogres began to pull the Beast of the East. I thought that, perhaps, they were pulling the Beast’s tail. The left head of the Beast took a deep breath intending to spray its poison in our direction, but his desire was demolished when another gray spear flew in again.
Perhaps, the spear might have messed up its brain. A scream ensued immediately.
“Black Spear! He has taken a hold of the left side!”
“The Black Spear Clan is holding on to the left side!!”
All that remained was the one Beast in the middle.
“Come on!”
“Come on!”
Making a similar screaming sound as before, the Beast began to fall head first. Looking at that, I could really see that the hunt has already ended. Thinking that it would be the last time, I rushed towards it, switching swords, and saw the b.a.s.t.a.r.d’s mouth open wide in an attempt to spray breath, all while lying down.
Just as I decided to dodge out of the line of fire, what came before my eyes was the large face of the Beast of the East,
Goff’s broad back,
His bulging arms, ax raised high.
With a cracking sound, the skull split and the ax pierced into the head of the Beast of the East, rendering the bastard totally silent.
Goff shouted as he stood on top of the Beast’s head.
“Wowoowww!”
We won.
I plopped to the ground, hoping that I could finally let my guard down. I looked down on my sweating hands. Sweat covered my forehead as well. The battle has ended much sooner than anticipated, yet I was completely drained.
We did it.
An indescribable sense of satisfaction swept through my body. My hands and legs were shaking uncontrollably.
Euphoria.
Certainly, a feeling of euphoria was sweeping through my body. It was a feeling of euphoria that was somewhat different than being victorious from a battle. It was the feeling of coming to an understanding as to why the humans would hunt, risking their lives. I wasn’t the only one feeling such a sensation. Along with the Goff Clan and Goff who were shouting, Black Spear and the Black Spear Clan and I, too, was spewing out what was burning in my chest as I came to my senses.
“Wowwwwwwwow!”
It was the same for the Blood Dagger Clan as well. As if they have been waiting for me, they, too, cheered loudly.
“Let there be honor!”
“Let there be glory!”
“Let there be victory!”
That’s how that short hunt has ended. Due to the fact that the bastard had three heads, it was rather easy to distribute the trophies. Although we won’t be butchering the b.a.s.t.a.r.d right here, Goff, Black Spear and I have decided to each take exactly one third of the Beast.
There were some who were still caught up in their elation, but most of the Green Skins have calmed down. Only then was I able to calmly look around the battlefield and concluded that, while it was enough territory for the bastard’s home, it was insufficient for our village. So, we decided to go deeper into the inner part of the territory.
“Where is the place for us, Black Spear?”
