Chapter 1686: Wicked Beyond Redemption

“General!”

They had just gotten back to the army camp when Commander Liang took big strides out of the castle and reported in a low voice, “Twenty out of the twenty-six people have been saved. Three commanders and three bodyguards have… died!”

Yun Bing’s expression remained still. It was already a very good result that only six people died. She remained where she was for a while, and a murderous look crossed her face. “Get the army to go back and make the necessary adjustments. Two of you, Jiang Wuming and the rest of you, come with me to the Wind-Chasing Army. These six people cannot die for nothing!”

“Wind-Chasing Army?”

Commander Liang and the other Senior Commander exchanged a meaningful look. The former hesitated for a while before saying, “General, why don’t we report this to the Great General Lord and let him settle this according to military law?”

The Wind-Chasing Army was an independent army made up of the scouts of the Flying Feather Army. The scouts had indeed failed in an inspection this time. However, it was not appropriate for Yun Bing to cause trouble for them personally. The Wind-Chasing Army general was not easy to deal with. If she made a single mistake and the matter blew up, she could be punished, too.

“Cut the crap!”

Yun Bing scanned Commander Liang from head to toe and then walked forward with big strides. Her aura was intense, and she looked like she was ready to stir trouble.

Jiang Yi raised his eyebrows slightly. This had nothing at all to do with him; why was she asking him to tag along? He was eager to go back and continue cultivating his divine patterns.

Since he was named, he had no choice but to follow Yun Bing. However, he walked slowly on purpose and blended in with the rest of the bodyguards. Yun Bing was going to stir trouble so he might as well watch the drama unfold.

Yun Bing’s expression was ice-cold as she led the group past rows of castles. They caught the attention of many soldiers. This was a reputable, talented young lady… the young mistress of the Flying Feather Army. Her grandfather, Heavenly King Yun, was a commander of the Flying Feather Department. It would be difficult for her to walk past unnoticed.

Many people locked their divine senses in on her, wanting to see what kind of commotion she was going to cause.

Once Yun Bing led the group into the first castle in the sixth row on the right, many people retracted their divine senses. It was one thing to want to watch the drama unfold, but it looked like this commotion was going to be blown out of proportion. Naturally, they did not want to be implicated.

Stomp! Stomp! Stomp!

Yun Bing led the entire group into the castle. The moment she entered the main hall, she shouted in a low voice, “Where is Mu Heyu? Get him out here to see me!”

There were two Commanders in the castle. Both of them saw how cold Yun Bing was being, and one of them immediately cupped his hands and averted his gaze. “General Yun, our General has not returned to the camp. He went out to do an inspection. Do you want to come back later?”

“Who are you trying to kid?”

Yun Bing’s cool gaze scanned the two Commanders as she asked, “Would that good-for-nothing Mu Heyu go out to personally conduct inspections? You know very well what the consequences of lying to your superior are. If Mu Heyu doesn’t show himself in two hours, I will personally go and look for him among the Commanders!”

The two Commanders exchanged another look and secretly cursed in their hearts. The man who spoke had no choice but to cup his hands again and say, “Please forgive us, General Yun. We will look for the General immediately.”

Both of them left the castle at once. Without standing on ceremony, Yun Bing sat at the host’s seat. Commander Liang and the other commander, along with Jiang Yi and the remaining bodyguards, sat on either side of her. All of them waited in silence for Mu Heyu to appear.

Time ticked by. Yun Bing’s expression grew darker. She waited for a total of two hours before a tall, handsome, young man walked into the castle on the dot.

The man had sharp eyebrows and bright eyes. His lips were red, and teeth were white. He was picture perfect. Even his aura was extraordinary. The corners of his mouth curled upwards in a smile that reminded one of the spring breeze. With seven or eight men trailing behind him, he looked insufferably arrogant. Even Jiang Yi secretly admired him.

After Mu Heyu stepped into the castle, he scanned the surroundings. Then, he smiled and cupped his hands. “General Yun Bing, what has brought you here today? Even if I want to see you on ordinary days, you would not bother to respond.”

“Mu Heyu!”

Yun Bing’s expression remained chilly. She remained on Mu Heyu’s seat, without showing any intention of budging. As if she was interrogating a criminal, she asked in a cool tone, “Are your men useless? Because of a mistake made by your Wind-Chasing Army, three of our commanders and three of our bodyguards died. How do you think we should settle this?”

“Oh?”

Mu Heyu looked shocked. Then, his expression immediately hardened. He turned around and chastised the Commanders behind him, “Was there such a thing?”

The Commanders looked at one another, at a loss as to what was to be done. One of them finally cupped his hands and said, “General, we don’t understand what General Yun is talking about.”

“The Netherworld River Mountainous Region!”

Yun Bing tutted and explained coolly. “Your report said that the strongest beings there were high-grade Netherworld Generals. Yet, when we went there, a Ghost-Eyed Beast King appeared. My team suffered huge losses as a result. If this was not a mistake on your part, was it ours?”

Mu Heyu looked angrier as he shouted, “A Ghost-Eyed Beast King? Was there such a thing?”

One of the Commanders stepped forward and nodded, saying, “Reporting to General: the men really did report to us that there was a Ghost-Eyed Beast King from the Netherworld River Plains headed towards the Netherworld River Mountainous Region. The moment we received the news, we added it onto the jade talisman for the mission.

“General Yun, by that time, you had already gone out for battle. However, you can check the jade talisman. It should show now. You were the ones who didn’t pay attention to the report. This was not a mistake of the Wind-Chasing Army. It was… your mistake.”

“En?”

Yun Bing’s cool gaze fell on the Commander before she shouted, “Commander Liang, take your jade token out.”

Commander Liang’s expression changed at once as he retrieved his jade token. Indeed, there was an additional line of words there, making clear that a Ghost-Eyed Beast King was headed over. Commander Liang cursed in his heart and bowed. “I really did make a mistake. General, please punish me as you deem fit.”

The expressions of the other commanders and bodyguards—including Jiang Yi—all changed. They came here to pin the blame on somebody. They did not expect to be slapped in the face and told that they were the ones who were in the wrong.

Yun Bing’s expression was as dark as charcoal now. In a cool tone, she said, “General Liang, I will settle the score with you later. However, General Mu, why didn’t you send people to inform us the moment you received the news? If you had chased after us as fast as you could, we would not have lost so many people. You cannot entirely push the blame!”

“I’m sorry!”

General Mu shrugged his shoulders. “We recently received orders from above to look into a spy from the Nine Yang Army. That was why we did not have enough manpower to inform you. General Yun, you know that our Wind-Chasing Army has always been in charge of too many things and regions. The situation is always changing. Where would we find enough manpower to send people to personally inform others of every change in the situation?”

Mu Heyu’s explanation was full-proof; nobody could find any holes in his argument. Yet, Yun Bing refused to let the matter rest just like that. She asked, “Spy? How could a spy enter our Nine Yang Army? What kind of spy would require so much attention from General Mu?”

“You must have heard of this person.”

Mu Heyu smiled subtly and glanced at Jiang Yi momentarily. Then, he hinted, “This spy came from the Earth Domain. He killed Young Master Dao Feng at the Chaos Sea, caused chaos in the Azure Region, and massacred countless innocent people. He is a devil, wicked beyond redemption. It is said that he snuck into our Nine Yang Army. The Commander-in-Chief has given orders for us to investigate this person. That’s right, his name… is Jiang Yi. General Yun, do you know where he is hiding?”

Swish! Swish! Swish!

Immediately, Yun Bing and all the others’ expressions changed. Jiang Yi’s ugly face twitched. He knew that his identity would be exposed sooner or later, but he did not think that it would be this soon. Much less did he expect that the Commander-in-Chief of the Nine Yang Army would be in the know as well. He was even naming him a spy?
