Chapter 120: Path of Original Intention
After walking to the Radiant Moon Palace’s spiritual ingredient vault, Lin Yuan noticed there were three spirit attendants in light yellow robes. He had even encountered two of the spirit attendants before as they were the ones that had come to clean up the pavilion.
Since Lin Yuan had heard the idle conversation carried by the wind, he could still vaguely remember their names. The one with the exquisite make-up was called Jin Qi, and the one without make-up was called Wen Yu. As for the other girl, Lin Yuan had never encountered before.
When the trio saw Lin Yuan approaching, Jin Qi’s eyes lit up as she hurried to bow. “Lord Lin Yuan, it has been a long time!”
Lin Yuan nodded and took out a token, carved with two crescent moons, and said, “I am here at the vault to retrieve some spiritual ingredients.”
Jin Qi quickly responded, “What spiritual ingredients does Lord Lin Yuan require? I will go and prepare them right now.”
Lin Yuan scratched his head and said, “I need one liter of Grasswood Fountain Water and two Mahogany Tree Cores.”
When Jin Qi came forward, she had the intention to block off Wen Yu and the other spirit attendant. She didn’t even want to give Wen Yu and the other spirit attendant a chance to speak. She thought that she would definitely serve Lin Yuan to his satisfaction for whatever spiritual ingredients he requested.
But when she heard that the requests were one liter of Grasswood Fountain Water and two Mahogany Tree Cores, she was rather confused and stood there in a daze for two seconds. The other spirit attendant that Lin Yuan didn’t know walked over and said to Lin Yuan in a respectful tone, “Lord Lin Yuan, the vault does have Mahogany Tree Cores, but there isn’t any Grasswood Fountain Water. Because the stream at the waist of the Leaning Moon Mountain is made up of Grasswood Fountain Water. If you need it, I will go and fetch some for you now.”
Jin Qi silently glared at the young girl. She didn’t think that a two-second daze would allow someone to cut into the conversation. When the young girl saw Jin Qi glaring at her, she glared back seamlessly.
Until now, Jin Qi didn’t really understand why Lin Yuan wanted the Mahogany Tree Cores and Grasswood Fountain Water, but she still interrupted with decisiveness. “Lord Lin Yuan, I will go at the waist of the mountain and fetch the Grasswood Fountain Water for you.”
Lin Yuan was rendered speechless as his speculation was actually correct. The spiritual ingredients he required were rare outside but weren’t even qualified to enter the Radiant Moon Palace’s vault.
An entire stream of Grasswood Fountain Water? How many liters is that? The amount of wealth is absurd.
Jin Qi immediately prepared to set off for Leaning Moon Mountain’s waist to fetch the Grasswood Fountain Water upon seeing Lin Yuan nod. But when she was about to leave, she suddenly thought, Wouldn’t I be giving others the chance if I go and fetch the Grasswood Fountain Water?
Jin Qi made a quick counterplan and pulled along the young girl that had interrupted her. “Xi Xi, accompany me to fetch the Grasswood Fountain Water. Since Lord Lin Yuan requires some, we will fetch more and store it in the vault.”
The young girl called Xi Xi was reluctantly pulled away from the Radiant Moon Palace by Jin Qi.
This was the lesser of two evils principle. In Jin Qi’s eyes, Xi Xi had more competitive power than Wen Yu.
The thoughts of a young girl were things that Lin Yuan wouldn’t understand and wouldn’t be able to guess either.
Presently, only the spirit attendant named Wen Yu was left. Lin Yuan gestured and said, “It just so happens that I need some other spiritual ingredients. Why don’t you help me with it?”
Wen Yu bowed and waited for Lin Yuan to continue. He then wrote down all the spiritual ingredients he required on a piece of paper. These were all spiritual ingredients required for Genius and Chimey to reach the Legend quality.
Genius and Chimey might not have a suitable Willpower Rune yet, but their quality could be upgraded to Legend first.
Wen Yu received the paper and replied, “Lord Lin Yuan, these spiritual ingredients are all available in the vault. I wonder whether you will wait here for me or enter with me.”
Since Lin Yuan had nothing else to do, he said, “We will enter together then.”
Once inside the Radiant Moon Palace’s vault, Lin Yuan saw all sorts of spiritual ingredients, and they were all sorted into boxes of different materials on various racks. Due to the different traits of the spiritual ingredients, their storage boxes had to be particularly specific too. Lin Yuan was truly dazzled by the different types of spiritual ingredients.
Wen Yu was very familiar with this place, so she took just a moment to gather everything that Lin Yuan required and store them in a fey storage box. When Lin Yuan received the fey storage box and was preparing to exit with Wen Yu, she suddenly coughed violently.
Wen Yu used a handkerchief to cover her mouth, but the handkerchief was still dyed with some fresh blood. Evidently, she had coughed out earlier too.
After the violent coughing, Wen Yu turned and bowed to Lin Yuan. “My apologies, Lord Lin Yuan. I have been rude.”
Lin Yuan could see that Wen Yu was rather apprehensive when she spoke. He looked at Wen Yu and said, “There is nothing rude. Humans are mortals. How can anyone remain healthy all the time?”
Wen Yu let out an apologetic smile. Lin Yuan then recalled about that night’s idle conversation and asked, “The competitive pressure among spirit attendants must be tough, right?”
Wen Yu nodded as she replied, “The spirit attendants will go through a selection every year. If we don’t reach the standard, we will lose our qualifications to be spirit attendants.”
After Wen Yu replied, Lin Yuan posed a question that stunned her. “If the competition between spirit attendants is so intense, is it worth it to risk injuring the roots to save someone?”
Wen Yu didn’t expect the conversation that night to be overheard, and she really didn’t know how to answer Lin Yuan’s sudden question.
Her talent was originally ranked in the top three, but after she rescued someone and injured her roots, her performance had declined, and she was at the bottom now. She was already determined that she would be the one to lose her qualifications as a spirit attendant.
Since then, she had suffered all sorts of bullying and suppression from her comrades. The person she had rescued had been filled with gratitude at first, but the said person gradually distanced themselves from her and even started to bully her too.
This was the harsh reality. Did Wen Yu regret it? Perhaps!
But why didn’t she even think before rushing over without regard? Was it foolish? It might seem a little foolish now.
Nonetheless, no matter how foolish or regretful she was, her actions back then were in accordance with her true self.
When Lin Yuan saw Wen Yu biting her lips and not giving a reply after a long time, he smiled.
After suffering all the bullying and suppression, if she is able to say that she doesn’t regret it without hesitation, that would definitely be false. She is truly a genuine and kind person, which is rather hard to find.
Lin Yuan turned around and gestured. “Later on, you will help me to bring the Grasswood Fountain Water to the pavilion I am residing at. I will return first.”
While walking back, the Mother of Bloodbath, which had stayed silent until now, spoke. “Why? Has she touched you, and you wish to heal her injuries now?”
The Mother of Bloodbath’s tone sounded mocking. Feys that were able to reach this current state had already disregarded sympathy. Natural selection and survival of the fittest—those were the feys’ iron rules.
Lin Yuan shook his head and said, “Since she chose her own path, then she must persist and grit her teeth to go on.”
The Mother of Bloodbath didn’t respond and continued to lay on the leaf. It then heard Lin Yuan saying again, “But I wish to tell her when I am still capable that her path of original intention isn’t wrong.”
After speaking, Lin Yuan walked on with determination. At the same time, something undetectable happened. The red spider shivered a little, and its aura became gentle.
