Chapter 86: Chance within the Turmoil

Upon hearing the phone ring, Ning Lingyu stopped her tears. Removing herself from Ling Yun’s embrace, she looked at him with her round and tearful eyes.

“Big brother, do you blame me?” She asked while sobbing.

Ling Yun glanced at his shoulder which had become wet from her tears. To have a sister with the treasured innate spiritual body, I would give anything to have you by my side. Why would I even blame you? Ling Yun thought internally.

He then gently patted Ning Lingyu on her delicate shoulder before giving her a gentle smile.

“Silly girl, you have been crying too much these days. Your big brother isn’t so petty that he would blame you for asking a few questions.”

Seeing how her brother was unaware of why she was crying only served to touch her heart even more. After all, this meant that throughout all these years, her brother had held no grudge against her and never blamed her for anything.

As Ling Yun’s phone continued to ring, Ning Lingyu wiped her tears dry before speaking.

“Brother, you can pick up the call, I’ll go help mum clean up the clinic.”

Ning Lingyu then turned and left the bedroom.

Once he saw the six number eights in the caller ID, Ling Yun knew straight away that it was the arrogant Tang Meng. Thus, he decided to pick up the phone and almost immediately Tang Meng’s rough voice blasted through the phone.

“Boss, don’t tell me you’re still sleeping? What took you so long to pick up the phone?”

“So how did it go? Did you find the apartment?” Ling Yun replied bluntly, uninterested in useless banter.

Tang Meng immediately replied with a laugh, “Hehe, Boss no worries, I always get the job done! I have already found three prospective apartments, you can take your pick! So when will you be coming down?”

Of course, Ling Yun wished to settle this matter as soon as possible. Thus, he nodded his head as he answered, “If you’re free, we can go see the apartments right now.”

As for the idle Tang Meng, there was no way he could busy with anything. Hence, after telling Ling Yun to give him half an hour he hung up.

Yungui joint border, thousands of meters above sea level, in the Miaoling Mountains.

Miaojiang, Miao Village. Southern crossroad.

Miao Xiaomiao and Miao Fenghuang were both dressed in splendid Miao tribe attire. Standing side by side, the various silver ornaments on their body basked and shined radiantly under the morning sunlight.

“Retrieve the worm.” Miao Fenghuang ordered as she turned and glanced at Miao Xiaomiao.

Her face was slightly pale and haggard. Her facial expression looked somewhat dispirited. This was to be expected. Miao Fenghuang’s life force was intertwined deeply with her Gu insect. Thus, with her Amnesiac Gu insect being suppressed by the Nine Needles of the Spiritual Pivot she was greatly affected as well.

Miao Xiaomiao nodded her head, her expression sincere yet solemn. She crouched her delicate body and with the small silver shovel in her hand and started to dig into the earth. The silver shovel was razor sharp and her strength was shocking for her size. Miao Xiaomiao dug through the earth like lightning, her silver ornaments swinging with each motion. The sound of silver hitting silver echoed as she dug. In no time, she had plowed half a foot deep into the hard ground.

A large sturdy earthen urn finally revealed itself. It was dark red in color and sealed tightly.

“Open the jug!” Miao Fenghuang ordered once again as she lowered her head and stared at the seal. She had a satisfied expression on her face.

Miao Xiaomiao’s facial expression became more solemn and heavy than before. She began to recite a complex and long incantation in an ancient tongue. After a long time, she finally finished and with her silver shovel, she slammed down onto the top of the urn. With that, the cover of the urn was broken.

Miao Xiaomiao then knelt down with both knees. Tilting forward, she peered into the urn. What laid in wait within the urn was enough to terrify a regular person.

Scorpions, centipedes, earwigs, toads, venomous snakes and lizards… The urn was filled with hundreds of different poisonous insects. They were of many colors, their fangs intertwining. Anyone that saw them could easily tell that they were poisonous.

Fortunately, all of them were no longer moving. They appeared to all be dead, all except for one. The remaining insect was a golden silkworm, the size of a grown man’s thumb and its entire body was radiant gold. The silkworm was eye-catching and even had a small pair of wings.

The golden silkworm was resting on the body of a blood red cobra and squirmed occasionally. Upon noticing the opening in the urn, it’s small eyes spun around wildly as it glanced at both Miao Fenghuang and Miao Xiaomiao. The moment it saw Miao Fenghuang, it immediately shrunk it’s fat body deeper into the jug as if it feared her. Then as if to look for protection, it looked miserably at Miao Xiaomiao.

“This is the urn that was made using your fresh blood and mud. It contains the best golden silkworm for twenty years. Now that it has gained its own consciousness, bring it with you this time.” Miao Fenghuang told Miao Xiaomiao.

Miao Xiaomiao nodded her head and extended her delicate palm forward before reciting a simple incantation.

In response, the golden silkworm spread its wings and took flight. In a flash, it had landed on Miao Xiaomiao’s palm, leaving a golden trail in its wake. It then looked back at the urn, it’s tiny eyes showing disdain towards its former home.

“Its so cute!” Miao Xiaomiao cried out in joy. It seemed as if the two of them had already established a connection.

“Of all the poison in the world, none can compare to that of this golden silkworm! Now that you have established a connection with it, to do kindness or evil with it is all up to you.” Miao Fenghuang exclaimed to Miao Xiaomiao.

“You must always remember, the men outside are all terrible beings! Understand?” Miao Fenghuang’s tone was becoming sterner.

“Don’t worry granny, I know, besides, it’s not like I have never been out before…” Miao Xiaomiao answered nonchalantly as she poked her golden silkworm playfully.

“Once you’re done, come back immediately, do not stay outside for too long. After all, you are at the age suitable for marriage…”

Miao Fenghuang turned around and started walking deeper into the village.

“Now off you go, and if you do meet the one with the last name Xue, don’t forget to pass my words to him!”

Miao Xiaomiao stood up and with a toss, the golden silkworm took flight into the air. It joyfully flew about, circling around Miao Xiaomiao. Seeing Miao Fenghuang’s lonely and empty figure as she walked away, Miao Xiaomiao had a perplexed expression before eventually letting out a sigh. She then spoke in Mandarin to her flying silkworm, “Let’s go.”

Straightening her lovely figure, she started moving. Her movements were unusually fast, so much so that before anyone knew, her exquisite and beautiful silhouette had vanished, leaving only the echoes of silverware reverberating against each other in the air. After spending two hours traversing forty mountain ridges, she finally reached a slightly bigger Miao village.

Being nearer to the outside world, this Miao village was influenced greatly by Chinese culture. It was also much more modernized. The village had telephone lines set up and even electricity available to the people. They even repaired the road leading to the outside world and some of the villagers were even wearing city clothing.

Most of the villagers seemed to recognize Miao Xiaomiao, giving her warm greetings whenever they met. In response, Miao Xiaomiao beamed in their directions. Very soon, she arrives at the village chief’s residence. After familiar greetings with the owner, she walked straight into a room and changes out of her Miao tribe outfit.

Once she was done her image had completely changed. She was no longer the village girl in traditional tribal attire but had changed into a sweet and innocent city girl. She was dressed in modern clothing and even holding on to a travel suitcase. As for the golden silkworm, the moment Miao Xiaomiao entered the village, she had already hidden it in who knows where.

Miao Xiaomiao smiles and talked to the village chief using a form of slang. In reply, the village chief nods his head before going back into the house to make a call. After ten minutes had passed, a car arrived at the doorsteps. The driver stopped the engine before respectfully passing the keys to Miao Xiaomiao. After doing so, he started chatting with the village chief.

Miao Xiaomiao opened the boot of the car and placed her suitcase inside. Once done, she sat in the driver’s seat and gave the village chief a sweet smile after lowering the window. She waved her hand at him before starting the engine. With the car engine started, she then drove down the road leading out of the mountains. She could not help but wonder how the other young Miao tribe girls in Miao Fenghuang’s village would think if they saw her doughty behavior.

Back in Qingshui City, in a four-star hotel lying along the road leading to Qingshui High, in one the standard rooms.

This room was checked in at eleven o’clock yesterday by two ordinary looking men. These two guys looked so exceptionally ordinary that if they had entered a crowd no one would be able to recognize them. That being said, what these two men were doing right now was far from ordinary.

They were both seated in their respective bed, one was in the midst of loading bullets into his pistol while the other was playing with a razor sharp dagger proficiently in his right hand. In his left hand, he held on to a picture. In the picture was a fat Ling Yun dressed in Li Ning sports attire.

“Say, Li Yi, is this fat student really important enough that the company had to send two yellow rank hitman like us to kill him?” the guy playing with the dagger asked his friend. His voice a mixture of amusement and contempt.

“Jiao Fei, do not let your guard down, from what I heard, once this matter is settled, the top brass will receive 800 thousand dollars. As for us, we will at least receive 300 thousand dollars.”

Li Yi said as he turned around and looks at Jiao Fei while loading his bullets. His pace was unaffected and it was obvious how used to loading bullets he was.

“It’s just killing a student. How hard can it be? By tomorrow we will be bringing his head to collect our reward!” Jiao Fei exclaimed. His tone was cold and his face bloodthirsty. He was smirking as he expressed his contempt.

Li Yi frowned before replying, “According to our data, this kid was sent flying by a Steyr truck a few days back. To be exact, he flew a couple of meters back and suffered major blood loss. Yet, the very next day he was seen running around the school track as healthy as ever. This guy is surely no ordinary student.”

“Hey come on, being able to run the day after being sent flying by a moving Steyr truck? Who was the witness? Or was it based on rumors? If that’s the case then our data is highly flawed. It’s impossible unless he’s one of those celestial rank killers in the company.”

Li Yi was a patient, cautious and quiet person by nature. Seeing how Jiao Fei was belittling Ling Yun, he wanted to try and convince Jiao Fei to remain alert. Yet his quiet nature caused him to decide to keep it to himself instead. After, loading up the magazine with bullets, he loaded it into his pistol before proceeding to clean his gun silently.

Jiao Fei glanced at the quiet Li Yi before announcing with a cruel smile, “There’s no need for you to lift a finger tomorrow. With a single stab, I will end his life and we will be on our way back.” With that, his dagger slashed at Ling Yun’s picture, splitting it in half.

Back in the clinic.

Tang Meng drove to the clinic and picked up Ling Yun. Together they visited the first apartment in the city. Having felt that it was not peaceful enough and that the location was too eye-catching, Ling Yun did not even bother to enter the place. Instead, they moved on to the second apartment.

For the second apartment, the moment Ling Yun entered it, he immediately had positive vibes about the place.

Not only was the place very quiet, in the daytime, few people pass by the area. In addition, the apartment had its own gate and a private yard. What is most important is the fact that the place was very near the location where he found the Shichiyou herb. The apartment was only two kilometers from the small riverside where the herbs thrived. Thus, he only needed two to three minutes to reach it from the apartment.

“Boss, this apartment has three bedrooms and a living room. Furthermore, it provides stable electricity, water as well as an internet connection with a ten megahertz network speed! Downloads will be lightning quick! And look, the landlord has already tidied up the place and furnished it with so many pieces of furniture…” Tang Meng boasted while advertising the place to Ling Yun.

“Uhn, not bad, let’s get this place then. Forget about the third apartment. Let’s get to signing a contract for a quarter of a year’s worth of stay.” Ling Yun replied his mind set on staying in this apartment.

Upon hearing that Ling Yun only wanted to sign a three-month contract, the landlord appeared somewhat displeased. However after Tang Meng whispered something in his ears, the landlord’s expression changed immediately and immediately approved the contract.

With the contract sealed and six thousand dollars worth of rent paid, Ling Yun obtained the apartment keys. Everything had proceeded smoothly.

Once the landlord had left, Tang Meng leaned against the sofa and lighted a cigarette. Letting out a puff of smoke, he uttered, “To think that fellow really believed me when I said that my father is the head of the security bureau…”

In actual fact, Tang Meng knew that the landlord only chose to believe him instinctively because he had seen the expensive hummer that Tang Meng came in.

The more Ling Yun examined the apartment the more satisfied he was with it. With a smile he exclaimed, “Well done, looks like I did not waste that good mobile number on you. Now, follow me back to the hostel to pack my stuff!”

Tang Meng was momentarily stunned.

“You mean right now?”

Deep in his heart, what Tang Meng wanted to ask was why was he in such a rush to move into the apartment? Unless he intended to do it tonight with Cao Shanshan…

Ling Yun’s forehead creased as he replied.

“Are you suggesting that we start moving on the day when everyone returns and attract all their attention? Now stop spouting nonsense and let’s hurry up!”

With the presence of a car, everything became much more convenient. With just a single trip and back from the hostel, they had moved everything to the apartment. By late morning, around half past ten, they had finished moving everything into the apartment room.

“Boss, since there’re still two vacant rooms, is it alright for me to stay in one of them whenever you’re not using it?”

Poor Tang Meng was still dreaming.

“Forget about it, I rented this apartment to prepare for the entrance exams, no one is to disturb me!” Ling Yun rejected Tang Meng without hesitation. What a joke! Ling Yun intended to use this place to power level all the way to strength level nine. Thus, with the presence of the distracting Tang Meng, he might as well forget about any power leveling!

Hearing that, Tang Meng felt melancholic. In his mind, he was doubtful his boss was using the room to prepare for the entrance exams. Instead, he was sure Ling Yun wanted to use it with Cao Shanshan…

As for Ling Yun, he sat on his tidy bed and seemed to be in deep thought. After a few moments, he abruptly stood up before speaking.

“Let’s go, follow me, I want to do some shopping.”

Tang Meng looked at the bundle of 500 dollar notes lying on the coffee table. Ling Yun had withdrawn it from the bank a short while ago. The sight caused Tang Meng to let out a quiet sigh.

The boss is truly the boss, even the way he spends money is much wilder than me! Such grandeur…
