Yan Mo quickly closed his mouth and made a face like he was pleasantly surprised that what he did had such an effect on Yuan Zhan. “I didn’t expect that those things I did are really good for warriors. When my priest taught me, he only told me that this method can treat illnesses, help the body recover and can regulate a warriors’ body. Unfortunately I hadn’t learnt a lot from him before the Zhi clan attacked, I didn’t get to learn all the priest knowledge before priest-daren…”

The boy couldn’t keep his sadness from appearing on his face.

Meng wanted to go to comfort the young man, but Yuan Zhan held out his hand in front of him. He looked straight into the boy’s eyes and asked, “You’re saying that you learnt all your skills from the Yanshan priest?”

Yan Mo didn’t answer right away. He now realised that Yuan Zhan was way harder to fool than Meng.

Not waiting for him to answer, Yuan Zhan continued on as if wondering to himself and as if asking a follow-up question, “If the Yanshan priest knows so many things, and also can ‘regulate’ warrior’s bodies…” It’s the first time Yuan Zhan heard this word, but it wasn’t hard to understand what the boy meant by context. “Yanshan warriors will be very powerful, many of them will reach higher levels. So how could the Zhi clan defeat your tribe?”

He knew it, this little boy is too sharp! Yan Mo turned his brain around, what can he say to make the other party buy his story and give himself the best advantage?

Meng looked to the left, then to the right. He grabbed on his head. Looks like the little slave still kept some secrets from them.

After an appropriate silence had passed, Yan Mo spoke again, “… Do you know why I haven’t even reached level one at fourteen?” He deliberately spoke slowly, to give himself more time to arrange the words.

“Because you’re a priest disciple?” Meng followed up directly. Their tribe’s priest disciple also doesn’t have to train hard like the rest of the fighters.

Nope. Because when this body was still under that boy Heijiao’s control he was stupid and only liked to play. Everyone in the Yanshan tribe was rather rich and his family had his two elder brothers supporting it, no one ever seriously taught Heijiao.

Yan Mo shook his head, “Because my body is weak. I often got sick. I’d often spend the day with the priest, that’s how I can become one of his disciples. But because I have a sickly body, he had other disciples.”

Yan Mo turned to Yuan Zhan, “This is why you’ve never seen me following the priest. Even in my tribe, very few knew I’m studying under the priest.”

The doubt in Yuan Zhan’s eyes subsided. That’s true. Ever since he found the boy, he was always either injured or sick. Even when not, he was thin and weak.

Very good. Yan Mo had dealt with the first contradiction. Now he had to pave the way with the second step. These skills and knowledge he had shown so far can no longer be attributed to that Yanshan priest’s name.

Just think about it. If his disciple was this amazing, how much more powerful is that priest who taught him? How can a tribe that had such a powerful priest be so weak, or have the same food and clothing as the other ordinary tribes?

Yan Mo planned to get a stronger backer. A backer no one can prove to be false and can be used this once to explain why he knows so many things now and in the future.

Thanks to mountain god Jiu Feng for giving him the inspiration, and thanks to these two’s narration of the godblood’s folk tale, this helped him make a believable story.

“Actually, my tribe priest didn’t teach me that much, he’d focus on teaching his other disciple.” The boy’s expression showed sadness again.

Meng was puzzled and asked directly, “Why do you know so much, then? Who taught you? God?”

“I don’t know…” The boy’s eyes fogged with confusion. He inwardly hypnotised himself that this was the truth, forcefully convincing himself too. “I often had dreams. There was a bird with a human head in my dreams, it was him who taught me everything. At first, I couldn’t understand what he’s saying. When I was little I would get headaches. I couldn’t sleep well at night, so I would feel bad during the day and my body gets weaker each time.”

Yuan Zhan and Meng exchanged glances. They almost completely believe this story. The boy’s face really looked like this had plagued him for a long time, even as he recalled it now, his expression seemed in trance.

The most important point is: the boy mentioned a bird with a human head… They were questioning why mountain god Jiu Feng didn’t kill the boy and even recognised him as his priest — even though those claims came from the boy’s mouth as well.

But now, hearing this story from the boy, everything had its plausible explanation.

The young man had received the inheritance of god in his dreams. Mountain god Jiu Feng is a piece of that God in this world. That’s why Jiu Feng took the boy away, because the Yanshan tribe was destroyed and the priest was killed, and he needed a new priest.

That human-faced bird god was most probably the Yanshan clan ancestor. Although they didn’t know what caused the boy to suddenly awaken his blood inheritance, Yuan Zhan was also like that, his ability came suddenly and no one could explain why. No one knew how the priests gained their inherited knowledge, maybe the boy’s experience is how the priests originally gained their god’s knowledge.

As for why Jiu Feng didn’t protect the Yanshan clan, it must be because that now-dead Yanshan priest had never received the true inheritance and never knew the right way to sacrifice or how to call the god.

Yan Mo looked at the two’s expressions and judged that they bought it. Then he can start the next step of the story.

“When I was little I couldn’t understand what that man was saying, there were many words that I didn’t know.”

“I know. We also can’t understand a lot of your words.” Meng had a face full of sympathy. “If there’s a god that keeps talking in my head using those strange words, I won’t just get a headache, I’d go crazy.”

Yan Mo smiled, “But for some reason after I grew up, I started to understand that… god, let’s call him a god for now, that god’s words. I didn’t know if what the god told me was true or not, I never got the chance to test it, not until…”

Yan Mo paused on purpose for dramatic effect.

Yuan Zhan was completely hooked, but still won’t lower himself to bite the bait. And he didn’t have to, because right next to him was Meng who couldn’t hold his curiosity back.

As expected, Meng followed up with ‘until what’ almost instantly.

“Until that god told me to go to a place and get some items. He said that those are for his descendants, and are part of his inheritance. He told me to make good use of them, and that only I would be able to use them.” Yan Mo gave himself an excuse to openly use the golden needle and healer pouch.

What if in the future this story spread and caused some people to try to steal these items from him, or destroy them?

He had considered it thoroughly. Other than never using the rewards the guide gave him — and that’s impossible, he still had nearly one hundred million scum points. Once he used them, other people would find out sooner or later. He might as well create an origin story for them, let everyone know that a God gave him these items, and they had been bound to him, other people can’t use them.

Meng and Yuan Zhan’s eyes gleamed. A precious item inherited from an ancient god, just the sound of it was so miraculous.

Yan Mo continued, “After getting those items I finally believed what that god had been teaching me might really be useful. I was going to tell my tribe’s priest about this when the Zhi clan attacked. I escaped in a hurry with some of my tribesmen, but because I was too weak, my clan left me behind after I was bitten by a beast. That’s how Ah Zhan found me and took me to Yuanji.”

“Ah…” Meng exhaled a long sigh and glanced sideways at his good buddy. “Ah, Zhan! You’re so lucky, you randomly picked up one slave, and it’s a great priest who received direct god inheritance!”

Yuan Zhan didn’t want to laugh, but his open grin looked smug no matter how you looked at it. The reason for his smugness was slightly different from what Meng pointed out, it was because: Haha! He slept a priest! A true priest who had received his ancestor god’s inheritance! Hahaha!

What should he do? The moment he thought of that, he got a bit hard. …Huff, fortunately he’s sitting in a water vat.

Yan Mo sensed something weird in the way Yuan Zhan looked at him. His gaze fell on him again and again, he even licked his own lips.

What crazy things is this kid imagining now?

The hair on Yan Mo’s neck suddenly stood up. He felt like he understood the xxxx and xxxx in the teen’s eyes!

This brat. He just started to seem like an okay guy for a few weeks and now… Is it true that younger people are easily turned on? Or was it side effects from the medicines he paired?

Yuan Zhan spoke with a serious face and righteous tone, while his obscene gaze kept lapping the boy. “Rest assured. I and Meng will never tell others about the things you said today. We can use our warrior soul to swear to you!”

Meng’s face instantly became serious and his back straightened. “That’s right! I swear with my warrior soul, I absolutely won’t tell others about you. If I ever break my oath, I will lose my warrior soul!”

Yuan Zhan made the same oath as him.

Is this kid protecting him? Yan Mo was stunned, he felt awkward. Was he wrong to criticise the kid? Did he interpret that gaze wrong?

Then again, who would salivate over people of the same sex if they’re not an actual homosexual? Look at Meng, always saying he wanted to grope him, but he hadn’t done anything weird to him up to now.

Yan Mo hit his head to stop his thoughts there. That’s fine, no matter what the other party is doing this for, at least he won’t have to hide anything from these two. He’ll be more free to act in the future.

Yan Mo gave the two a grateful grin, his boyish face looked simple and honest. “I’ve told you guys all my secrets, can you tell me something too?”

“What thing? What do you want to know?” Yuan Zhan’s eyes finally showed a touch of trust looking at the boy. All this time, he had never let down his guard around his little slave, until now. Of course, this change is largely influenced by the boy’s action when he collapsed. Yan Mo didn’t hurt him or abandon him and instead treated and helped him upgrade to level three.

“My brain is always messed up while I lived in Yanshan, I’m not very clear about the warrior level division or how they upgrade. Can you guys tell me?” Out of habit, Yan Mo added an incentive, “I think it was an accident that it helped Ah Zhan upgrade, but if you guys tell me how warriors upgrade, maybe I can really find what it is that helps people upgrade.”

“This is not some big secret.” Yuan Zhan and Meng laughed when they heard the boy’s question. “Anyone training to be a warrior would know about it.”

Yan Mo actually knew a bit from his body’s memory. But this Heijiao kid only knew to play around aside from eating and sleeping, Heijiao was never interested in this. Yan Mo could only learn bits and pieces from his memory, it’s not enough to give him a thorough understanding of this levelling system.

Since Yuan Zhan was going to explain it fully now, Yan Mo sat up straight and opened his ears with expectations.
