The mayor of the capital died with unresolved grievances.

Gu Nan's swordsmanship wasn’t very good. In fact, he didn’t even know any swordsmanship to speak of. All he could rely on was pure speed—however, most of the time, speed was enough.

The mayor was pierced by a sword. He wasn’t even a Heroic Spirit summoner, so all his vitality was cut off instantly, and he turned into a corpse, falling down slowly.

While Gu Nan said nothing, the shadow clones began to slowly appear everywhere, hunting down people in the other two camps one by one.

Since Star & Moon Camp’s people couldn’t do it, then he’d do it himself. Gu Nan would never force other people with words; he was used to using his fists.

Fang Caiyue hadn’t died yet. She struggled to her feet and glared at Gu Nan coldly.

She was also a soldier, and her temperament was determined to the point of ruthlessness, so she was able to become the commander of the Special Operations Division.

"No one can fight against the country. You can destroy our bodies, but you will never defeat our will!" Fang Caiyue shouted powerfully.

Gu Nan shrugged and merely responded with a sword.

He had no interest in NPCs’ wills. Destroying their bodies was enough.

The slaughter still continued. Gu Zhaoyue originally wanted to take part in it, but Gu Nan's actions were too fast. In other words, the shadow clones were too efficient at killing.

In just a few breaths’ worth of time, over a dozen corpses were scattered on the ground, and the shadow clones had already finished their harvesting and turned back into shadows.

"M-Mr. Gu Nan…” Lin Duo stared in disbelief at Gu Nan's familiar and expressionless face.

Ever since he left that day, Gu Nan hadn’t appeared in front of her again. If it wasn’t for the Heroic Spirit contract, she might’ve even thought that Gu Nan had died in the apocalypse.

Even though it was confirmed that he was still alive, Lin Duo tried to summon Gu Nan countless times, but all of her calls were like pebbles falling into the sea.

She never thought that she would meet Mr. Gu Nan again in such a situation.

Lin Duo wanted to come forward to talk but was grabbed by a small hand. She turned her head in amazement and saw the twin sun and moon spirits standing beside her, shaking their heads gently.

The little girl didn’t know what to do for some time, while others in the Star & Moon Camp mostly kept quiet out of fear.

None of them knew Gu Nan and didn’t even know whether he was friend or foe, but the way he killed Heroic Spirit users like butchering chicken was enough to make them afraid.

The scene returned to silence, and after Gu Nan gave Gu Zhaoyue a couple of orders, his figure disappeared again, while Gu Zhaoyue began to organize people to explore.

The reason behind the moon thralls gathering in West City must be investigated. This was also the goal of Gu Nan’s current trip.

……

Inside the actual Star & Moon Camp, Lin Ke stood in a corner with little light, quietly watching a figure fade away, but her face didn’t look very good.

"Looks like there really is something wrong with that lab." A man stood beside Lin Ke, his eyes showing interest. "I’ve already sent three consecutive waves of people there… but none of them have returned?"

Lin Ke replied with a straight face, "Of course the place Gu Zhaoyue has under strict guard isn’t so simple."

The man glanced at her. "Since the apocalypse hit, our organization can no longer mobilize as many people. I hope you don't unnecessarily consume our human resources."

"What do you mean?!” Lin Ke was furious. "No.4 High School is the origination point of the moon thrall disaster in the capital. Shouldn't we investigate the secrets hidden by the Star & Moon Camp?"

The man just sneered without replying.

The moon thrall catastrophe caused chaos in the federal government, which created a great opportunity for their organization. It was only natural to investigate the Star & Moon Camp, but if he’d known that Gu Zhaoyue was temporarily away, then he would’ve informed the organization’s top level officials a long time ago.

At the very least, Gu Zhaoyue was still a Tier 3 figure. It seemed that the traps he left behind weren’t something a few little shrimps could handle.

‘This is all due to Lin Ke's selfish motives!’

‘Her younger sister is an important figure in the Star & Moon Camp. I heard that Gu Zhaoyue even personally recruited her. Of course Lin Ke doesn’t want to fall out with the Star & Moon Camp completely…’

The man's eyes flickered, hiding his thoughts.

……

Inside West City, the team from Star & Moon Camp was advancing smoothly, cleaning up the moon thralls along the way.

The current moon thralls were stronger than the originals, but their average level still wasn’t high. With this elite team’s power, it wouldn’t be long before they arrived at their destination.

However, in order to prevent accidents, everyone still took turns to rest, so as to ensure that the team always kept itself in pristine condition.

Once again, Lin Duo stepped down from the outer ring and went back to the inner ring to rest—in reality, she didn’t really have to rest. All her fights were entirely handled by the sun and moon spirits themselves.

Normal summoned Heroic Spirits generally weren’t very intelligent, so Heroic Spirit users needed to be on the battlefield to command them. This was also why they were inferior to possession-type Heroic Spirit users.

But the sun and moon spirits were different. Not only did these two kids have good brains, but they also had a lot of combat experience, so Lin Duo didn’t need to do a thing for the entire fight.

The reason she still stepped down from the outer ring was simply because she was afraid the sun and moon spirits would tire out and wanted to give them time to recuperate.

Zhang Ying stood beside Lin Duo, and when she stepped down, he leaned up to her and whispered, "Lin Duo, the person who appeared just now… Do you know him?"

Zhang Ying’s question was abrupt, but it made Lin Duo panic.

She didn’t need to think much to realize that Zhang Ying had heard the words she inadvertently blurted out when she saw Gu Nan earlier.

Looking at Lin Duo's reaction, Zhang Ying received his answer without having to listen to her answer.

He said in a low voice, "You have to think carefully, that person killed a government official!"

"But right now…"

Zhang Ying was very saddened. "How can a single person's strength defeat the entire nation? The federal government will definitely settle its debts after the moon thralls have been eliminated."

"Even if the government can be lenient…" Zhang Ying’s face was full of righteousness. "Is it even worthwhile for us to associate with people who are as arrogant as that?"

Lin Duo turned silent. Of course she couldn’t win a verbal argument against Zhang Ying, and even her heart didn’t agree with Gu Nan's wanton killing of the people in the other two camps.

‘After all, they’re the government’s army…’

But Gu Nan was her Heroic Spirit. This made her heart very conflicted, but she couldn’t come up with any countermeasures.

Zhang Ying asked again, "Lin Duo, tell me honestly, is that person deeply related to you?"

"Ah? How do you know…" Lin Duo was startled and subconsciously said.

Zhang Ying showed such a knowing expression. "Don't worry about this for now… Have you considered that you will also be dragged down if that person is designated as a wanted fugitive in the future?"

For Lin Duo, who grew up in peacetime, the word "wanted fugitive" was still very lethal. It meant that she’d have to say goodbye to the good old days.

Lin Duo never considered this aspect before, but now she really started to panic.

After all, she was just a lucky high school girl.

Not far away, the sun and moon spirits were watching this scene coldly. Little Ming, the sun spirit, seemed to frown. He tried to interrupt several times but was stopped by the moon spirit next to him.
